AREA SKIERS JUNIOR OLYMPICS BOUND

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. Three Blue Mountain Nordic Team racers posted Junior Olympic qualifying times at a competition over the weekend near Snoqualmie Pass.
On Saturday, Dane Johnson finished third in the sprints race with a time of one minute, 56 seconds.
In the classic race Sunday at Cabin Creek, Jonson won the 5 kilometer race in 20:15. Ezra Axelrod took third in 21:00.
In the J1 boys 15 km classic race, Josh Axelrod finished fifth in 1:03.59.
In the J2 boys race, Travis Dixon finished with his first-ever Junior Olympics qualifying time.
Kirsten Johnson won the J3 championships 3 km skate in a time of 8:47. She must race one more year at J3 before moving to the Junior Olympic qualifying races.
Johnson and the Axelrods were named to the Pacific Northwest Junior Olympic Team following the races. Johnson and Josh Axelrod were named to the PNSA Elite Development Team for having finished within 5 percent of the top time in all eight of their races this season.
The Blue Mountain Nordic Team will train for the Junior Olympics at Anthony and Meacham this week and fly to Marquette, Mich. with its 33 teammates and seven coaches for a week of racing March 5-10 at the famed Suicide Bowl.
Area snowboarders excel at One Track Mind Banked Slalom
SPOUT SPRINGS La Grandes Ron Evans finished second Sunday at the One Track Mind Banked Slalom snowboard race.
Evans was one-hundredth of a second behind winner Jon Hernandez of Walla Walla. Both men won their respective age groups. Evans was in the 36 and over class and Hernandez was in the 19-25 age group. More than 50 competitors participated at the sixth-annual event.
One Track Mind team riders Ross Weaver of La Grande finished second and Ian Clark came in third, behind Tyler Brooks of La Grande who won the 16-18 class.
Shirley Cornford won the womens 36 and over and her daughter, Candi, topped the womens 19-25 class. Chelsea Malone won the womens 16-18 division.
One Track Minds snowboard team was paced by 12-year-old Kerry Gleasemen of Joseph, who had the fastest womens time. Wade Gleasemen of Joseph topped the mens 13-15 class.
Baker Citys Segar Pence of the One Track Mind team dominated his class in the boys12 and under. Eric Scott of Baker City finished fifth in the 19 -25 class.
One Track Mind will be traveling this weekend to compete in the Slopestyle and Halfpipe at Mount Bachelor to qualify for nationals in Mammoth Lakes, Calif.

ALSRA competes at McCall 4-Way
McCALL, Idaho Alicia Nelson won five events in the girls 7-and-under division at the McCall 4-Way ski race Feb. 17-18.
Nelson, a member of the Anthony Lakes Ski Racing (ALSRA) team won the slalom, giant slalom, cross country, four-way combined and the ski jumping events.
Samantha Densmore won the girls 7-8 divisions ski jumping, and Sergio Morris topped the boys 7-and-under cross country event. Greg Wanta won the boys 9-10 division cross country race.
The ALSRA sent 32 racers to the two-day event to compete against more than 80 racers from the McCall Ski Racing Team and the Bluewood Blazers.
