Allie Albertson

Allie Albertson, 103, of Salem and formerly of La Grande and Wallowa County, died July 7 at a care home in Salem.

A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Island City Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Schlessman of La Grande First Christian Church officiating. Friends may call at Daniels Chapel of the Valley until 5 p.m. today.

Mrs. Albertson was born Feb. 19, 1898, in Boreing, Ky., to John D. Sr. and Marian Hammack Braughton. The family moved to Wallowa County, and she was educated in Enterprise. She attended Western Oregon and Eastern Oregon universities and received a teaching certificate.

She taught in Wallowa, Union, Baker and Umatilla counties. She and her husband, Hobart Albertson, built and remodeled several properties in Northeast Oregon. He died in the early 1950s.

Mrs. Albertson moved to Capital Manor Retirement Center in Salem in 1968.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Retha Bowman, Reba Clark, John Braughton III and George Braughton; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Her sisters and brothers, Mary B. Kail, Myra Richmond, Fanny Muir, Nannie Diehl, Mattie Hoatson, Dora Cooper, John D. Braughton II and George Braughton, died

earlier.

Harold Soles

Union

1924-2001

Harold Soles, 76, of Union, died June 29 at his home. Daniels Chapel of the Valley was in charge of arrangements. A family gathering took place July 6 at the Union United Methodist Church.

Mr. Soles was born Aug. 28, 1924, to William and Dottie McCloughan Soles in Millboro, S.D. He attended school in South Dakota, and on July 16, 1948, he married Lois Crawford in Crouch, Idaho. He worked as a logger for various companies until his retirement. The family moved to Union in 1960. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting, working in his yard and gathering alfalfa by hand.

Survivors include his wife of Union; his children and their spouses, William and Linda Soles of Hermiston, Jesse and Sharlayne Soles of La Grande, Susie and Frank Michaels of North Powder; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Velma Wilch of Silverton, Woodrow Bud Soles, George Soles and Ines Sharp, all of Millboro, Frank Soles of Winner, S.D., Nellie Warner of Brooks, Helen Michel of Nampa, Idaho, Ellen Gaslin of Emmett, Idaho, Mary Hayford of Mount Angel, Pearl Chambers of Colome, S.D., Ann Culver of Greenfield, Mo.; and other relatives. A brother, Lewis, died earlier.

Andrew Anderson,

Andrew Anderson, 76, of La Grande, died July 10 at a local care center. A celebration of life is tentatively planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St. An obituary will be published later.

Donald Farnam, 73, died this morning at his home in

Catherine M. McBride, 76, of La Grande and formerly of Enterprise, died July 7 at a local care center. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center, 91 Aries Lane, with Pastor Doug Hale officiating. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McBride was born Feb. 13, 1925, to Joseph and Anna Zoller Aufmuth in Portland. She moved recently to La Grande from Enterprise, where she had lived at a care center since 1998.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandea Mathis of Las Vegas, and three brothers.

Lesley Lusby

Formerly of La Grande

1972-2001

Lesley Ray Lusby, 28, of McCleary, Wash., and formerly of La Grande, died July 10 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash., after a long illness. A celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Union Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dedication of the grave and burial will follow at the Union Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lusby was born Aug. 7, 1972, to Lester Ray and Nada Rose Schooler Coles in La Grande. She graduated from Union High School, where she received the Presidents Academic Award from the president of the United States, and graduated in 1997 from Evergreen State College in Olympia. She married Dennis Lusby at Catherine Creek State Park on Aug. 13, 1994. She enjoyed reading, camping, painting and drawing and was in the drama club at school.

Survivors include her husband and children, Alexander, Kiashandra and Brianna Lusby, all of McCleary; her parents of La Grande; her brothers, Bob Coles of Maryville, Tenn., Tom Coles of Boise and John Coles of Pendleton; her sisters, Rhea Frick of McMinnville, Cindy Zaugg of Hillsboro, Sherri Wright of

La Grande, and Linda Huycke of Wasilla, Alaska; her grandmother and other relatives.

Joan Du Bosch

La Grande

Joan Du Bosch, 68, of La Grande, died July 10 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with the Rev. Richard Thew officiating. Private burial will be in the Grandview Mausoleum.

Mrs. Du Bosch was born Oct. 11, 1932, to Charles and Mabel Leathers Roach in Kimberly. She graduated from high school in Monument, earned her teaching certificate from Eastern Oregon State College and taught in Pendleton before moving first to Union and later to La Grande. She began teaching at Riveria Elementary School in 1961 and moved to the Island City School in 1974. She taught first grade for 20 years before her retirement.

She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed playing 42 with her friends every Monday.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Mark Warren, her grandsons, Chris, Michael and Ryan Warren, and her mother, all of La Grande, and other relatives. A brother and her father died earlier.

Donald Farnam

La Grande

Donald Dean Farnam, 73, of La Grande, died July 12 at his home. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with the Rev. Frank Cooke of St. Peters Episcopal Church officiating. Private burial will be at the Grandview Mausoleum. Viewing will be from

4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Farnam was born Sept. 7, 1927, to Lester and Mabel Hudson Farnam in Salem. He graduated from the University of Oregon, and on Sept. 2, 1950, he married Janet Marian Rilea in Salem. After a divorce, he married Barbara Watkins Boslau in La Grande. He was co-owner of Roy Farnam Supply for many years before becoming district manager for the northeast district of Oregon State Economic Development. He later worked for Hartland Real Estate. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, the La Grande Country Club, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, Phi Delta and the Optimists Club in which he was past president and instrumental in constructing Optimist Field. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, camping, traveling in his RV, working in his garden, baseball, his black lab dogs and reading.

Survivors include his wife of La Grande; a brother, Keith Farnam of Yakima, Wash.; his children, Peter Farnam of Summerville, Thomas Farnam of Joseph, Liz Orton of Victoria, Australia, Douglas Boslau and Dianne Dalton, both of La Grande; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and other

relatives.

Charles Wing

Formerly of Elgin

1921-2001

Charles Wing, 79, of Lafayette and formerly of Elgin, died July 7 at his home after a long illness. A private memorial service will be planned later with burial in Island City Cemetery. Mr. Wing was born Aug. 14, 1921, to Buell and Edith Dixon Wing in Groton, S.D. He attended school there and in Nevis, Minn. He married Selma Jesperson on June 14, 1941, in Akeley, Minn., and after her death, Hazel Reed in Coeur dAlene, Idaho. He served in the Army during World War II and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He farmed and owned and operated the L&W Meat Co. in Elgin.

Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; a son, Rodney Wing of Seattle; and a daughter, Charlene Halfhide of Coeur dAlene. His first wife, a sister, Clara Wing, and an infant brother, Dale Wing, all died earlier.

Andrew Anderson

La Grande

Andrew Everett Anderson, 76, of La Grande, died July 10 at a local care center. A celebration of life was held Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Anderson was born March 5, 1925, to Andrew and Cora Helgerson Anderson in Eureka, Calif. He came to La Grande 37 years ago. He was a member of the National Association for Amateur Radio. He enjoyed astronomy, mathematics, science, computers, war history, fly-fishing and horses.

Survivors include his daughters, Laurie McCain of Beaverton, and Lisa Nyberg of Portland; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sisters, Norma Reagan of Eureka and June Dokweiler of Rio Dell, Calif.; and a brother, Roy Anderson of Yreka, Calif. A sister, Joyce Stratton died earlier.

Charles Anderson

Formerly of La Grande

1930-2001

Charles B. Anderson, 71, of Athena and formerly of La Grande, died July 9 at his home in a farming accident. A memorial service was held Friday morning in the chapel of Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater

with Father Hank Albrecht officiating.

Mr. Anderson was born April 9, 1930, to Olaf and Pearl Kasper Anderson in Alta, Ohio. After the family moved to La Grande, he began working for local ranchers and farmers and graduated from La Grande High School in 1949. He worked for McCormack Construction as a carpenter and foreman until he retired in 1992, then started Anderson and Trump Construction with his partner, Richard Trump. He built 135 homes and numerous other buildings.

He married Karen Kirk Sincleir in 1989 in Athena. He loved quarter horses and Shetlands and was known for his woodworking crafts.

Survivors include his wife of Athena; a daughter, Glenda Billerbeck of Elma, Wash.; his sons, John Sincleir of Lacey, Wash., and Tony Sincleir of Pendleton; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Zaklan of Pendleton; sisters, Marjorie Midge Mink of La Grande, Irene Janie Carter of Giddings, Texas, and Charlotte Toots Hillner of Aurora; and other relatives. His first two wives, Velma and Rose, two brothers, Steve and Art Zaklan, and two sisters, Mary Dominick and Josephine Whaley, all died earlier.
