Velma Buchanan

Enterprise

Velma Zoe Buchanan, 84, of Enterprise, died Nov. 29 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Prairie Creek Cemetery near Joseph.

Mrs. Buchanan was born May 25, 1917, to Ford and Nellie Bennett Hawley in Wallowa. She graduated from Wallowa High School and married Wilbur Brick Buchanan in 1935. The couple spent many years ranching on Prairie Creek before moving to Imnaha and finally to Enterprise. She enjoyed gardening and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Packard of Umatilla; a sister and brother-in-law, Verla and Glen Henry of La Grande; a brother and sister-in-law, Vern and Bernadine Hawley of Enterprise; four grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Her husband, a son, Jim Buchanan, a sister, Virginia Hays, and a brother, Verdo Hawley, all died earlier.

Bill Bushlen

La Grande

1916-2001

William Charles Bill Bushlen of La Grande died at a local care center Nov. 24, one day before his 85th birthday.

A private family service will be held later. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov. 25, 1916, to Fredric and Grace Proctor Bushlen in Vesper, Wis. On May 5, 1944, he married Cathryn Russell.

He was a World War II veteran.

Before he lost his sight, he was an artist, and he was an avid fisherman on the Deschutes River.

He is survived by four sons, Bill of La Grande, Tom of Olympia, Wash., Kermit of Portland, and Art of Helena, Mont.; two daughters, Susie Gross of Milwaukie and Cyndi Petersen of Oregon City; a brother, Kenneth Bushlen of Vesper; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His wife died in 1974.

Ruth Clever

La Grande

Ruth Clever, 90, of La Grande died Nov. 30 at Grande Ronde Hospital.

A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, with Frank Humber officiating. Committal and vault interment will follow at the Cove Cemetery.

Mrs. Clever was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Harden County, Ky., to James S. and Viola Lee Costigan. She graduated from nursing school in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1939 and married Joseph Clarence Clever in January 1942. He died in 1978.

She lived for many years in western New York and in Florida. She was a registered nurse until she was 72.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, John and Patsy Clever of Cove, Thomas and Nettie B. Clever of Garland, Texas, Michael and Lila Clever of Fayetteville, N.C, and a son Robert Clever of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister, Loraine of Ohio; a brother, Paul Costigan of R.I.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Lorraine Gabardi-Roundtree

Lorraine Gabardi-Roundtree, 77, of Hayden, Idaho, died Dec. 2 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.

A memorial service will begin at 11 am. Thursday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur dAlene, Idaho.

Mrs. Gabardi-Roundtree was born April 21, 1924, to Florence Mae and James. L. Creach in Waterloo, Iowa.

She married Joseph E. Gabardi on Feb. 23, 1940, in Wallace, Idaho. He died in 1970. She married Herbert L. Roundtree in 1972. They lived in Hayden since 1983.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Moses Lake, Wash., the American Legion Auxiliary in La Grande and the Ramblin Rovers in Coeur dAlene, Idaho.

She is survived by her second husband; two daughters, Josie Kliphardt of Garfield, Wash., and Kay Graham of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

James Russell

La Grande

James Ray Russell, 50, of La Grande, died Nov. 25 at his home of natural causes.

A celebration of life service will be conducted today at 2:30 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doug Hale officiating. Committal and burial will follow at Island City Cemetery.

Mr. Russell was born Oct. 21, 1951, to Donald and Dorys Pauline White Russell in Dora, Mo. Mr. Russell enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing, trips to the casino, football games and attending the county fair.

He is survived by sons, Michael Bare of La Grande and James W. Russell; daughters, Paula R. Russell and Jennifer Bare of Eugene; three grandchildren; his father of Missouri; a brother, Merlin White of Keizer; and a sister Bertha Luna of Troy, Ill.

His mother and a stepfather, Frederick White, died earlier.

Lorene Greenough

Lorene Greenough, 68, of La Grande, died Dec. 1 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the National Guard Armory, 404 12th St., with Pastor Gary Hood of The Pioneer Park Church of God officiating. A private burial will be at the Island City Cemetery. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.

Mrs. Greenough was born Jan. 30, 1933, to Edward and Irma Quillan Taylor in Almena, Kan. She graduated from La Grande High School and earned a teaching degree from Eastern Oregon State College. She married Glenn Howard Greenough on June 3, 1951, in La Grande and taught third and fourth grade at Union Elementary School for 19 years. The couple have wintered in Black Meadow Landing, Calif., for the past 10 years. She was a member of the La Grande Country Club and the Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, boating, traveling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of Perry; children and their spouses, Bruce Greenough of Elgin, and Chris and Carla Greenough of

La Grande; three grandchildren; her sisters, Phyllis Henderson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Eloise Booher of Perris, Calif., Shirley Cornwell of Spokane, Sharon Watne and Myrna Watson, both of La Grande; and other relatives. A sister, Donna Taylor, died earlier.

Lois Shepherd

Lois Jeanne Shepherd, 75, of Lake Oswego and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 29. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Summerville Cemetery. Omega Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shepherd was born April 30, 1926, to John and Parilla Lane in La Grande. She attended La Grande High School, and on Nov. 4, 1944, she married Robert Shepherd in Boston, while he attended Harvard University. The couple moved to Salem in 1950, and in 1966, to Lake Oswego, where she worked for the citys department of parks and recreation. She was an advocate for more park benches at George Rodgers Park, and on her retirement a park bench was dedicated in her name. She enjoyed her retirement, family birthdays and holiday gatherings, walking her dog in favorite parks and visiting Hawaii on her 50th wedding anniversary.

Survivors include her children, Julie Staten of Salem, Roger Shepherd of West Linn, Bob Shepherd of Beaverton and Tom Shepherd of Portland and seven grandchildren. Her husband died earlier.

Ruth Dahlstrom, 100, died Wednesday at her home in La Grande.

Gwendolyn Berry

La Grande

Gwendolyn K. Berry, 94, of La Grande, died Nov. 30 at her home. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with Father Hank Albrecht officiating.

Mrs. Berry was born Jan. 13, 1907, to Edward and Bertha Smith Keitzman in Lakota, N.D. She attended the University of California at Los Angeles, and on June 28, 1926, she marred Wilbur Berry in Los Angeles. They lived in Huntington Park, Calif. Her husband died in 1993, and in 1999 she moved to La Grande to be near

family.

She was an avid bridge player and a member of the National Womens Club. She enjoyed playing the piano, dancing and helping her family.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Ralph Giuffre of La Grande; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives.

Eva Price

Formerly of Cove

Eva Weimer Price, 95, of San Diego and formerly of Cove and Baker City, died Dec. 3 at the home of her daughter. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at San Diego.

Mrs. Price was born April 7, 1906, to Jonas and Texy Weimer in Cove. She married John F. Price on July 19, 1928. The couple owned Peerless Cleaners in Baker City for many years. They moved to Portland and then to Spokane. After their retirement they moved to San Diego. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lou Ann and Don Prock of San Diego; a sister, Alice May Cantrell of Haines; a sister-in-law, Faye Weimer of La Grande; and other relatives. Three sisters, Della Overman, Wilmerth Stark and Verna Baum, and a brother, Stowell Weimer, all died earlier.

Raymond Lefever

Raymond E. Lefever, 88, of Boise and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 14 while traveling in Ely, Nev. At his request, there will be no service. Mount Vista Chapel in Ely was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lefever was born Feb. 26, 1913, to Jeff and Rose Egger Lefever in Van Wyke, Idaho. He served in the Air Force during World War II and married Delores Johnston on March 25, 1988, in Ontario. He lived in La Grande in the early 1990s.

Survivors include his wife of Boise; a daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Don Presley of La Grande; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ruth Luese Dahlstrom, 100, of La Grande, died Dec. 5 at her home.

A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.

A private burial will be at the Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Dahlstrom was born Oct. 25, 1901, to John and Ann Elizabeth Fugit Shaw at Clover Creek in Ladd Canyon. She graduated from Washington High School in 1920 and attended the University of California and Armstrong School of Business. She worked in San Francisco at My Book Store in the childrens section and returned to the family ranch in 1927.

She married Axel Dahlstrom on Sept. 10, 1930, in La Grande. He died in 1994.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Past Matron and secretary of the Hope Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, the Lady Elks and Daughters of the Nile.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Nancy Dahlstrom of La Grande; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Her husband and a brother, John Shaw, died earlier.

Dorothy Alice Fiene

Portland

Alice Fiene, of Portland, died Thursday at the Grande Ronde Hospital after a three-week visit with her daughters.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Father Hank Albrecht and Father Pirmir Ngolle OSB as celebrants. Committal and interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Cemetery in Portland with Father David Gutmann

officiating.

Mrs. Fiene was born March 5, 1904, to Theodore and Mary Catherine Wolfe Kraeft in Oregon City. She graduated from Oregon City High School, and in 1927 from the University of Oregon with a degree in journalism.

She married Edmond Francis Fiene in Portland on Aug. 25, 1930. The couple spent their lives in Portland. Mr. Fiene died Dec. 15, 1988.

Mrs. Fiene was a member of the North Portland Catholic Community Queen of Peace for more than 60 years. She had a special devotion to Mary, the Mother of God, and to the daily recitation of the Rosary. Mrs. Fiene was also an avid reader, especially liking books about historical people. She loved to receive mail and was a great letter-writer until her death. She enjoyed her home and kept it well-maintained and orderly. Her family says she also loved the mountains, vacationing many years in the Metolius River area in Central Oregon and was proud of having climbed Mount Hood during her college years.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Calder and Carol Ann Fiene, both of La Grande; a son, James E. Fiene of Portland; and other relatives. Three brothers and two sisters died earlier.

John Hintermeister

John Hintermeister, 48, of Bend and formerly of Elgin, died Nov. 17 at the St Charles Hospital in Bend of a heart attack. A graveside service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Elgin Cemetery. Autumns Funeral Home in Bend is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hintermeister was born Aug. 8, 1953, to Charles Otto and Wilma Iona Johnston Hintermeister in Ithaca, Mich. He was an electrician by trade.

Survivors include daughters, Lindzie Marie and Megan Iona, both of Elgin, and Hailey Jade of Bend; sisters Donna Williams of Alaska, Phyllis Wahlman of Vancouver; and a brother, Joe Hintermeister of Alaska. His parents, a daughter, Shawnee Kay, and four brothers, Rudy, Blaney and a set of twins, all died earlier.

Wanda Puckett

Union

Wanda Sarah Tripp Richards Puckett of Union died Dec. 6 in Portland after a brief illness. She was 85.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Union. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City.

Mrs. Puckett was born March 4, 1916, to Guy E. Tripp and Sadie Elizabeth Criddle in Downey, Idaho. The family moved to Perry in the 1920s and later to Baker City. She graduated from Baker High School in 1934.

She married Raymond Richards in October 1935. He died in 1971.

She married Ralph Puckett in 1973 and moved to Cove. He died in June 1989.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions. She was a visiting teacher for more than 50 years.

Her grandmothers parents were called by the church to be early settlers in St. George, Utah.

She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and focused her life on her family and friends.

Survivors include a son, John Richards of Lake Oswego; a daughter, Kaye Richards Hanni of Portland; a sister, Darlene McGregor of Livermore, Calif.; eight step-children, Wythal Lane, Connie Marks, Zelda Marshall and Ray Puckett of Cove, Gay Zander of La Grande, Doralee Rosie Powell, Robert R.C. Clarence and James Puckett of Portland, 24 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Children Marcia Medlin and Lyle Richards; step-son, LaDell Puckett, three grandchildren, siblings Frances Greblo, Don Tripp and Charles Shelton died earlier.

Niles Brian Martens

Formerly of Union

1941-2001

Niles Brian Martens, 60, of Portland died Dec. 5 in Palm Springs, Calif. He had battled cancer and its treatments since 1980.

A service will be held at a future date in Portland.

He was born to Clark and Marjorie Martens on Oct. 2, 1941, in Union.

Niles is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kristine Martens, his mother, Marjorie Martens of Cove and other relatives.

After graduating with a B.S. from Eastern Oregon University, Niles served in the Army for two years. He then completed a masters degree in art from Portland State and taught art at Sunset High School for 13 years.

Niles taught others about art, tennis, golf, positive thinking and about how to conquer obstacles to live fully. He was a good listener, friend and compassionate man, family members said. He used his sense of humor and creativity to cause laughter and engage people in seeing the world through a unique view, family members said.

Anna M. Gake

Joseph

Anna Marie Gake, 101, of Joseph, died Dec. 9 at a La Grande care center.

A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise. Burial will be at the Enterprise Cemetery.

Mrs. Gake was born Aug. 26, 1900, in Goehner, Neb., to George and Mary Bauer. She attended school in Goehner and graduated from high school in Seward, Neb.

She married Albert Gake on Sept. 24, 1922. He died Jan. 5, 1971.

She and her husband moved to Joseph in 1936 and bought the S.T. Daggett home, where they established the Alpine Dairy, the first Grade A dairy in Wallowa County. The name is still visible on an old red barn on the Lake Street property in Joseph.

They closed in dairy when World War II began and Mrs. Gakes husband went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.

She moved with him to Huntington until he retired in 1964 and they returned to Joseph. Mr. Gake died in 1971. She lived in Joseph until last spring, when the property was sold.

Mrs. Gake was a homemaker. She enjoyed growing flowers, hunting and fishing with her husband and family.

She is survived by daughters, Virginia Lampkins of La Grande and Doris Buckley of Black Canyon City, Ariz; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

All her brothers and sisters and an infant son died earlier.

Braden Ball

Formerly of La Grande

1923-2001

Braden B. Ball, 78, of Lake Oswego and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 28 in Portland. A celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.

Mr. Ball was born in 1923 to Wilbur and Daisy Ball in Omaha, Neb. He graduated as salutatorian from high school in Lakeview and graduated from Oregon State University. He earned a masters degree in 1948 and was one of the youngest engineers to participate in the Manhattan Project for which he received a presidential accommodation. During his time in Los Alamos, N.M., he and another engineer were sent to the top of the test tower to make the final connections prior to the detonation of the first nuclear bomb.

He later worked for American Oil in Saudi Arabia and for Bechtel Corp. as a project manager. He told stories of King Saud in the early years when the king was known for building campfires on the floors of his motel rooms.

His work took him to 16 foreign countries.

After his retirement, he lived in Lakeview, where he married Margaret Carroll in 1995. The couple lived in La Grande before moving to Lake Oswego.

Survivors include his wife of Lake Oswego; stepchildren, Robert and Tom Carroll and Gayle Schaad; a sister, Moya Eyerly; and other relatives. Two sisters, Winona Ruebsamen and Parma Lee Baker, died earlier.

Archie Doud

La Grande and formerly

of Summerville

1905-2001

Archie Andrew Doud, 96, of La Grande and formerly of Summerville, died Dec. 10 at a local care center. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with the Rev. Mark Schlessman of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Summerville Cemetery. Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Doud was born Nov. 30, 1905, to Ira C. and Elpha M. Downen Doud in Farry, Okla. He married Irene C. Broska on Nov. 30, 1929. After a divorce he married Irene Craig on Oct. 11, 1939. He farmed for many years in and around the Grande Ronde Valley and worked for Boise Cascade until he retired in 1970. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, where he was a golden eagle, and enjoyed visiting the senior center.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Gerald Lewis and Donna Doud of Elgin, and Lulu and Jim Boyer of Boise, a daughter-in-law, Sheila Doud of

La Grande, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Glen Doud of La Grande, and other relatives.

His wife, a son, Jerry, a grandson, a great-grandson and four brothers all died earlier.

Becky Parsons

Becky Sue Parsons, 49, of Elgin died Dec. 10 at her home. There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Mrs. Parsons was born Sept. 9, 1952, to Clarence and Patty Case Southard in Heppner. She attended school in Elgin and worked at the potato factory in Boardman and at Terry Trailers in La Grande. She enjoyed quilting, being in the mountains, eating popcorn and being with her family.

Survivors include her children, Ricky Parsons of Salem, Carma Parsons and Niketa Parsons, both of Elgin, and Kari Hadley of Cascade, Idaho; six grandchildren; her father and a brother, Kevin Southard, both of Elgin; sisters, Patti Durfee of Elgin and Jacki Graves of Lexa, Ark.; and other relatives. An infant son, Joey, and her mother died earlier.

Sharon Starr

La Grande

Sharon Marie Starr, 59, of La Grande, died Dec. 8 in Boise. A celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.

Ms. Starr was born Oct. 1, 1942, to George and Lucille Caire Starr in Hayward, Calif. She attended beauty college and married Reed Brown on Dec. 3, 1962. After a divorce she married Randy Howard on July 16, 1976. She worked for many years as a clerk at the Summerville store and a local market. More recently she worked for New Day Enterprises and loved her clients. She enjoyed the ocean, fairies, watching clouds, beading, spending time with her family and friends, and making people laugh.

Linda Rae Berry, 58, of Imbler died Wednesday in an automobile accident on Highway 82.

La Grande

Irene Juanita Fager, 81, of La Grande, died Dec. 9 at her home. A service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Victory Christian Center, 1020 Jefferson Ave. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fager was born Dec. 5, 1920, to Rene and Bertha Anderson Botting in Bemidji, Minn. She graduated from La Grande High School, and on Aug. 21, 1948, she married Howard Fager in Boise. She enjoyed life and her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Jean Ann Johnson of Island City and June Gregory of La Grande; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Basil Bud Botting of La Grande; and other relatives. Her husband, two sons, James Howard Fager and Jerald Neese, a sister, Norma Mohr, and two grandchildren all died earlier.

Ronald Huggins

Formerly of Union

1937-2001

Ronald Dean Huggins, 64, of Longview, Texas, and formerly of Union, died Aug. 26.

Mr. Hug-gins was born Jan. 12, 1937, to William and Frances Huggins in Kerens, Texas. He attended school in Union and moved back to Texas where he owned a truck-driving business. He served in the U.S. Army in the late 1950s and married Betty Carnes.

Survivors include his wife of Longview, a daughter and her husband, Beth and Travis Smith, a stepdaughter and her husband, Carla and Miles Alvarez, a stepson, Jim Matthews, all of Texas, three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, brothers, Clifford Huggins of Portland and Eddie Huggins of Houston, a sister, Toya Gilmore of La Grande, and other relatives. A grandson died earlier.

Mary Cook

Enterprise

1918-2001

Mary Catherine Cook, 83, of Enterprise died Dec. 11 at her home. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Enterprise First Baptist Church.

Vault interment will follow at Alder Slope Cemetery.

Mrs. Cook was born Nov. 15, 1918, to Alonzo Churchwood and Carrie Lucinda Bennett Gillham in Milton-Freewater. She married Wilmer Cook on Sept. 23, 1945, in La Grande. She was a homemaker and taught Sunday school for

2- and 3-year-olds at the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Enterprise, her children and their spouses, John and Sharon Cook of Pendleton, Fred Cook of La Grande, Joyce and Steve Zollman of Enterprise, Doris and Kent Miller of Brookings and Donna and Paul Bates of Condon; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Frizzell of Summerville.

Two granddaughters, Angel and Amanda Cook, and two sisters, Elsie McIntosh and Jesse Gregory, died earlier.

Vera Knight

Vera Faye Knight, 92, of La Grande, died Dec. 11 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with Kemit Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Knight was born Aug. 29, 1909, to Guy LeRoy Roy and Lillie Boston Smith at Grouse Flats near Troy, in the home of George and Mary Boston. She attended school in Wallowa and on July 2, 1927, she married George H. Knight in Asotin, Wash. The couple had a stock ranch in Eden in Wallowa County before moving in 1945 to La Grande, where they had Knights Tire Service until they retired. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, fishing, camping and getting together with friends and family.

Survivors include her children, Georgia Danly of Walla Walla, Barbara Waliser of La Grande, Bill Knight of North Powder, Gary Knight of Milton-Freewater, Marilyn Staat of Woodburn and Linda Walker of Hermiston; 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Smith of Orofino, Idaho, and Veryl Smith of La Grande; and other relatives. Her husband, three sisters and four brothers all died earlier.

Percy Winters

Joseph

1913-2001

Percy James Winters, 88, of Joseph, died Dec. 11 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. A service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St. in Enterprise. A private burial will follow at Wallowa Cemetery.

Mr. Winters was born Sept. 23, 1913, to James R. and Anna Mae Beeman Winters in Paradise. He married Robin Jean Cade on June 17, 1963, in Enterprise. He was a farmer and served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Shelly Alexander of Issaquah, Wash.; five sisters, Bertha Prince of Union, Wilma Courtney of Lostine, Bessie Fleser of Enterprise, Rena Clark of Pendleton and Alta Anderson of Estacada; and a brother, Buck Winters of Hermiston. His wife died March 27, 1969.

Elvera Evelyn Trump, 77, of Elgin died Dec. 11 in an automobile accident. A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Elgin Cemetery with Pastor Steve Kirkeby officiating.

Mrs. Trump was born July 1, 1924, to Guy and Elmy Cathlene Hesner Culver in Pleasant Valley. She attended school in Baker City, and on Feb. 20, 1947, she married Loran Dean Scott there. After his death she married Everett Trump in August 1984. She enjoyed writing, gardening, riding a four-

wheeler in the desert and the Trail Blazers.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Delton and Cindy Scott of La Grande, Doug and Heather Scott of Elgin, and Diane and Chris Daggett of Elgin; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Kathy Slack of Elgin; three brothers, Delmer Culver of Hermiston, Marvin Culver of Kennewick, Wash., and Cliff Culver of North Powder; and other relatives. Her husbands died earlier.

Linda Rae Berry, 58, of Imbler died Dec. 12 in an automobile accident near Alicel. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the Summerville Baptist Church with pastor Frank Humber of the Summerville Baptist Church and pastor Vernon Slippy of the Grande Ronde Community Church officiating. A reception will follow at the church. A private burial will be in the Summerville Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Berry was born Aug. 9, 1943, to Charles and Ruthie Nadine Endsley Bean in Nampa, Idaho. She graduated from high school there and moved to Imbler in 1971. She worked at the Smokehouse Restaurant, and on June 30, 1979, she married Duane Berry. She worked for 12 years at Fleetwood Industries and, for the last five years, at Albertsons.

She enjoyed camping, steelhead fishing, shopping and spoiling her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband and her mother, both of Imbler; her children and their spouses, Karma Hendrickson of Island City, Joan Fitzpatrick of La Grande, and John and Teressa Dewey of Imbler; step-children, Greg Berry of Salem, Chuck Berry of La Grande, and Nikki Berry of Sacramento, Calif., and seven grandchildren. Her father, her father-in-law, Charles Berry, and her mother-in-law, Ione Berry, all died earlier.

Weiser, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande

Leora Fulp McBroom, 77, of Weiser, Idaho, died Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise following an extended illness.

The family will have a private graveside service at a later date in Weiser.

Mrs. McBroom formerly lived in La Grande, attending school and graduating here.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Atwood of Island City and Lee-Anne Clark of Albany; a sister, Reva Bayless of Albany; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
