Floyd Reese of La Grande, who has been in the mushroom buying business for 24 years, examines a basket of morels Wednesday. With each picker bringing in approximately 3.2 pounds of mushrooms every day to his shop at 2213 Jefferson St., Reese estimates the volume to be less than last year. However, if the weather warms up after the recent rain, Reese said the growing conditions for morels and bolettes should improve. The season for morels and bolettes, the mushrooms that bring the best price, will run through the middle of June for morels, and the middle of July for bolettes, he said.
