Constance Lucille Coleman, 88, of La Grande died Sunday at Grande Ronde Hospital.

Ralph W. Moberry

La Grande

1909-2002

Ralph W. Moberry, 93, of La Grande died June 14 at Grande Ronde Hospital. At his request there will be no funeral service. A gathering for family and friends to share memories will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the La Grande Country Club.

Mr. Moberry was born on Feb. 19, 1909, to Leonard and Lucy Surface Moberry in Oakland, Calif. He grew up in Los Gatos, Calif., and attended the College of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. For 20 years he was superintendent of a marine construction company in the San Francisco Bay area. He then began a career in golf as the assistant pro at the Olympic View and Seattle golf clubs in Seattle. In the late 1950s he became the golf pro at the La Grande Country Club and spent his winters as a golf pro in the Palm Springs, Calif., area. While at the La Grande Country Club he worked to build the junior program and loved to teach and encourage young people. He retired in the early 1970s and enjoyed fly-fishing and feeding his pet squirrels at the golf course.

Survivors include June, his wife of 50 years; daughters, Carol Moore of Colima, Mexico, and Wendy Abel of Tigard’ five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and other relatives. A sister died earlier.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Madeline Hedden Memorial Golf Scholarship in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.

Betty Roe

La Grande

1918-2002

Betty Roe, 83, of La Grande died June 14 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest East Cemetery.

Mrs. Roe was born July 15, 1918, to Edward and Florence McLachlen Donohue in La Grande. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1937 and in 1938 she married Melvin Roe in Payette, Idaho. He died in 1998.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and St. Bernadette’s Circle. She also was active with Grande Ronde Hospital, serving as a Pink Lady and with hospice and the auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, fishing, hunting and riding horses.

Survivors include her children, Marlene and Ken Rahn of Kelso, Wash., Karen and Fred DeVore of Irrigon, Tommy and Sally Roe and Monty and Kathy Roe, both of La Grande; 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Angela Keeler of La Grande, and other relatives. Three brothers, a sister and a daughter, Gail Mckinnis, died earlier.

Benjamin Ward

Formerly of La Grande and Baker City

1925-2002

Benjamin David Ward, 77, a resident of Tygh Valley, died June 12 at his home. Burial was at the Moro Cemetery. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ward was born June 8, 1925, in Baker City to Benjamin Franklin and Catherine Davis Ward. He attended school in La Grande and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific, where he was in the battle of Luzon and at Iwo Jima, where he received the Presidential Unit Bronze Star.

He married Betty Lou Courtney on June 24, 1945, in La Grande and graduated from Eastern Oregon College with a bachelor of science degree and a master’s degree in education. He was a principal and teacher for 27 years in Tygh Valley and Moro. He coached many Moro grade school and Sherman High School teams.

He was a member of the Tygh Valley Community United Methodist Church and served on the board of the Tygh Valley School Community Center. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge and was the Rainbow Dad for the Sherman County Rainbow Girls for several years. He was an avid elk hunter, a fisherman and enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening and mushroom hunting.

Survivors include his wife of Tygh Valley; his children and spouses, Scott and Koni Ward and Dana and Gayle Ward of The Dalles, Kathleen and Chris Kirby of Salem, and Julie and Clayton Carter of Okinawa, Japan; four grandchildren and his sister, Sharon Jones.

Angela Shaw

Angela Shaw, 25, of Hunter Road died Sunday as the result of an automobile accident.

Allen-Smoot

La Grande

1927-2002

Lillian Faye Allen-Smoot, 75, of La Grande died June 16 after a long illness. There will be a private family memorial service. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smoot was born April 1, 1927, to Van and Lillian Robertson in Caddo Mills, Texas. She attended high school in Kilgore, Texas. On March 25, 1944, she married Dick Louis Allen and the couple served as pastors in churches in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. After her husband’s death, she returned to Texas and later married Cordell Smoot in Daingerfield, Texas. After his death in 1993, she moved to La Grande to be near family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping and being with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Patti Spray and Becky Collman, both of La Grande, Sue Nine of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Bill Allen of Roundup, Mont., eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Lynda Hulse

La Grande

1938-2002

Lynda Lee Hulse, 63, of La Grande died June 18 at her home after an extended illness. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., with Pastor Steve Kirkeby of Valley Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow at Bramlet Cemetery in Wallowa.

Mrs. Hulse was born Sept. 19, 1938, to David and Wilma Stuart Robins in La Grande. On April 30, 1955, she married Duane Hulse in La Grande. The couple owned Odorless Dry Cleaners, where she worked as a seamstress for many years.

She was active with a businesswomen’s financial group for many years and was a member of the Mavericks, the Eagles and a snowmobile club. She enjoyed crocheting, four-wheeling, camping and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of La Grande; children, David Hulse of Summerville, Juanita Rolan of Redmond, Cindy Hamblin of Grants Pass and Dennis Hulse of Post Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Robins of Boise and Ernie Robins of Nashville, Ark.; a sister, Sharon Thomas of N.Y.; and other relatives.

Summerville

Angela Danielle Shaw, 25, of Summerville died June 16 at Grande Ronde Hospital following an automobile accident. A graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cliffside Cemetery in Sandy. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shaw was born Jan. 6, 1977, to James H. and Jani McAllister Gutierrez in Tucson, Ariz. On Aug. 10, 2000, she married Randy Lee Shaw in

La Grande. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed gardening, camping and hunting.

Survivors include her husband and sons, Zoey Dearing and Bonoak Shaw, all of Summerville; her mother, Jani Albaugh of Gresham; her father of Canyon Lake, Calif.; sisters, Sherry Butterfield of Gresham, Kelly Gutierrez of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., and Jessica Shultis of Portland; a grandfather, Arthur Gutierrez of Canyon Lake, Calif.; nephew, J.C. Butterfield; nieces, Rose Butterfield and Jessie Hammond; and other relatives.

Lorretta McFetridge

Formerly of Enterprise

1916-2002

Lorretta McFetridge, 86, of Salem and formerly of Enterprise died June 19 in Salem Hospital. A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the Enterprise Cemetery. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss McFetridge was born April 6, 1916, to Elmer and Hattie Ownby McFetridge in Enterprise. She worked at a bank in Enterprise before moving to Salem, where she worked as a secretary for the board of directors of the Salem Hospital and for a doctor in Dallas. She retired in 1975. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and helping her friends by driving them to appointments and shopping.

Survivors include a brother, Vernon McFetridge of Ontario, and three nieces.

Memorials may be made to the Northwest Medical Teams.

Rose Nedrow

Wallowa

1919-2002

Rose M. Nedrow, 82, of Wallowa died June 19 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Mel Byers officiating at the Wallowa Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Wallowa Cemetery.

Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nedrow was born July 20, 1919, in Clark Fork, Idaho. She married Willard F. Nedrow who died earlier. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Nedrow of Wallowa. Memorials may be made to any charity.

Maxine Nurmi

Maxine Nurmi, 80, of la Grande died Thursday at a local care home.

Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Monday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Iola M.

Botz-Gibson

1931-2002

Iola Michaud Botz-Gibson, 89, of Elgin died May 30 in Elgin.

A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. June 29 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elgin with Deacon Joe Garlitz officiating. Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Botz-Gibson was born May 7, 1913, in Helena, Mont., the daughter of John and Delia Platner Michaud. She married William Botz in 1931. In 1943 Iola and her husband moved to Elgin. She later married Arthur Gibson.

Mrs. Botz-Gibson loved her family and enjoyed living each day to the fullest.

She is survived by her sons, Ed Botz and his wife, Leveta, John Botz and his wife, Betty, and daughter Deanne Epley and her husband, Jim, all of Elgin; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Dying earlier were her first husband in 1966, a son, Tom Botz, and her second husband.
