Ruth Dressler
Portland
Ruth Dressler of Portland died Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at noon Aug. 31 at St. Katherine’s Catholic Church in Enterprise. Burial will be at the Enterprise Cemetery. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A full obituary will be published later.
June Breckon
Elgin
1922-2002
June Annette Breckon, 80, of Elgin died at a care center in La Grande Aug. 18.
A service will start at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elgin ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dedication of the grave will follow at Elgin Cemetery. Viewing will be at the church from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m.
Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Breckon was born June 14, 1922, to Charlotta Milissa Springer and William Allen Gutridge in Baker City. On Jan. 1, 1942, she married Clayton Breckon in Seattle. She moved to Elgin 25 years ago. Previously she had lived in Eugene.
She was an active member of the LDS church for the past 20 years in the Elgin ward. She enjoyed making dolls and doll clothes, needlepoint, crocheting, quilt making, reading and playing Scrabble with her husband.
Survivors include her husband, Clayton of Elgin, and children and their spouses, William R. Breckon of Redmond, Wash.; Clayton W. Breckon of Phoenix, Ariz., Dale and Denise Breckon of Renton, Wash.; Michael Breckon of Ogden, Utah; Jerry Breckon of Boise, and Mary Lee and Mark Sweet of Nampa, Idaho.
She is also survived by a brother, Edgar Gutridge of Baker
City; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dying earlier were her sisters, Alice Esgate, Francis Craig, Margaret West and June Breckon and her brothers, Wayne Gutridge, Delbert Gutridge and William Gutridge.
Rosemary Mitchell
La Grande
1911-2002
Rosemary Mitchell, 90, of La Grande died Aug. 17 at a local care center. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. today at the Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane in Baker City, with Art Evans officiating. A reception will follow at the fellowship hall.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Oct. 3, 1911, to Robert and Mary Gilkison Jones in Union. She married John R. Mitchell on May 24, 1931. The couple lived in Sparta at a place now called Mitchell Meadows. In 1939 they moved to Union and in 1946 to Hereford. After her husband retired from logging, they lived in Baker City; Fruitdale, Idaho; and Sumpter. She moved to La Grande in 1992 to be near her daughter.
She enjoyed working in the woods with her husband, gardening, camping, and being with her family.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Myrnie and Chet Koontz of Hereford, Wanda Lowe of La Grande and Neddie Mitchell of Lostine, 17 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Hilda McCumber of Mount Vernon. Her husband, a daughter, Anna Jean Munsell, and two brothers, Dale Jones and Burl Jones, died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the New Life Center in La Grande or to the Baker City Christian Church Building Fund.
Eve M. Heath
1930-2002
Eve Maree Heath, 71, of North Powder and formerly of Seattle, died Aug. 17 at her home.
A celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at her home, 820 Second St., in North Powder.
Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Heath was born Sept. 23, 1930, to Lefty and Dorothy Jones Watkins in Walla Walla. She was raised and educated in Washington.
She married Chester P. Heath on March 9, 1978, in Seattle.
She bowled at the Baker Bowl in Baker City for many years. She enjoyed visiting with friends, loved her flowers and was very proud of her yard.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Ann Sult of North Powder, a grandson, a great-grandson, aunt, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association, 1425 N.E. Irving No. 100, Portland 97232-4201, or the charity of choice in care of Loveland, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande 97850.
Clyde Meehan
1938-2002
Clyde M. Meehan, 63, of Elgin, died Aug. 18 at Grande Ronde Hospital.
A celebration of life service will be conducted Sept. 8, with the location to be announced. Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
Mr. Meehan was born Sept. 5, 1938, to Clyde Merrian and Erida Rodella Meehan in Mount Shasta, Calif. His mother died at the time of his birth. He graduated from high school in Mount Shasta.
Mr. Meehan entered the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 31, 1969, at Georgia Air Force Base in California. He was discharged July 16, 1982, having risen to the rank of staff sergeant.
He worked for the Statesman Journal newspaper in Salem. He lived in Portland for about 20 years before moving to Willamina in 1989. He moved to Elgin in 1996 and became active in operating the Elgin Food Bank.
He also enjoyed gardening and cooking. He enjoyed visiting with people and never knew a stranger.
Survivors include a special friend, Patty Holcomb of Elgin, and a son, David J. Meehan of Elgin.
Warren Carroll
Warren Carroll, 84, of La Grande died Thursday at a local care center. Arrangements will be announced later by Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
‘Denny’ Craig
Paul Dennis "Denny" Craig, 66, of Las Vegas, and a former North Powder resident, died Aug. 20, 2002, in Las Vegas.
Disposition will be by cremation.
There will be a memorial service in Las Vegas.
A memorial service will be scheduled later in Haines.
Paul Long
La Grande
Paul L. Long, 91, of La Grande died Thursday at Grande Ronde Hospital. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. A full obituary will be published later.
Dorothy Busick
Union
1903-2002
Dorothy A. Busick, 99, of Union died Aug. 21 at a La Grande care center. A graveside service will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Union Cemetery.
Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Busick was born July 26, 1903, to Arthur and Effie Cusick Busick at a ranch on Catherine Creek. She attended school in Union and earned a teaching degree at Bellingham, Wash. She was a devoted teacher and taught third grade in Union for more than 40 years. After her retirement in 1968, she traveled widely including trips to Europe, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, Australia and New Zealand.
She was a member and Past Matron of the Grande Ronde Valley Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was an active gardener, an avid reader and had a continuing interest in children and pets.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Hermsen of Palo Alto, Calif.; great-nieces, Carol Forney, Jeanne Hermsen, Susan Brown and Kathleen Richman and other relatives. An infant sister died earlier along with sisters, Eunice Busick and Alphia Hermsen, and a brother, Robert Busick.

Theresa Langella
La Grande
1915-2002
Theresa Louise Langella, 87, of La Grande, died Aug. 21 at her home. A celebration of life will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Island City Cemetery with her grandson, Graham Pinard, officiating. Viewing will be from noon to 3 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St.
Mrs. Langella was born March 15, 1915, to Angelo and Amelia Lapietra Battista in Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended school in New York City and in 1936 married John Turk. After a divorce she married Louis Langella in 1945 in Brooklyn.
The couple moved to Gresham in 1969. Her husband died in 1973. She moved in 1985 to La Grande, where she worked as a cook at a local care center. She retired in 1980. She was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, crochet and spending time with her family.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Lynne and Stan Thompson of La Grande, Robert and Carole Turk of Cannon Beach and Joseph Langella of Florida, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister, Celia Mirabella of Brooklyn.
