Graffunder Safe and Graffunder Security Services are planning an Oct. 15 grand opening of their new security showroom, locksmith shop and corporate offices.
The business, which operates a manufacturing plant on Union County Airport property, is opening the retail outlet at 1406 Adams Ave.
The company sells handcrafted Graffunder safe and vault products, a full line of locks, keys, door closures, panic hardware and other security equipment.
The grand opening will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 through Oct. 18, during which the company will give away a handcrafted safe, items from La Grande Gold and Silver and will offer huge discounts on all safe and vault products.
"A retail location in the heart of downtown La Grande is the next step in our business evolution," said Ralph Graffunder, plant manager. "It gives the public quick access to a much-needed service in our area."
Graffunder, a family-owned business, has manufactured high-quality safes since 1968. Founder Ulrich Graffunder moved the business to Northeast Oregon from San Francisco in 1981.
The family built a state-of-the art manufacturing plant at 59890 Smith Loop near the airport in 1993 to build safes, vaults, vault doors and banking equipment.
The building that houses the new retail store has been remodeled and upgraded to meet city and historical district standards. Barrow Builders, George Barrow Construction did the remodeling.
