Neighbor to Neighbor Ministries will share a free community Christmas dinner from noon to 1:30 p.m. Christmas Day at the Presbyterian Friendship Center, 1204 Spring Ave.

Everyone is invited.

Sponsoring organizations and churches are Community Connection, the United Way of Union County, The Salvation Army, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, the Faith Center, Zion Lutheran Church, the United Methodist Church, Pioneer Park Church of God, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Son Rise Methodist, Valley Fellowship, Victory Christian Center, Imbler Christian Church and the Elgin Christian Church.

SERVICES

Union County

COVE

A vesper service will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cove United Methodist Church. The service of songs and Christmas music will be followed by refreshments in the fellowship hall.

ELGIN

Mass will be said on Christmas morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elgin beginning at 11.

Grace Bible Church will have a special Christmas service beginning with a 10 a.m. brunch at the Elgin Community Center. The 11 a.m. worship service will include carols and a Christmas message.

IMBLER

Imbler Christian , 440 Ruckman Road, will have a musical presentation of the Christmas story beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday. The vocal and instrumental presentation will feature people of all ages. Refreshments will be served.

ISLAND CITY

The Faith Center, 10300 D St., will celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent with a 10 a.m. service on the theme "The Most Joyful Christmas Celebration Ever." A candlelight service at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve will focus on hope with the message "There Really is Hope this Christmas."

New Hope Christian Church will have a children’s Christmas skit with carols and a potluck dinner at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at The Place, 62872 Buchanan Lane.

A youth meeting, Avalanche 2002, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lighthouse Church.

LA GRANDE

A Christmas Eve communion service will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Nazarene, 109 18th St.

A candlelight service at the United Methodist Church, 1612 Fourth St., will begin at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve with Scripture, story and song to celebrate the beautiful and meaningful tradition of Christmas Eve.

Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Fourth and L Ave., will celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent with the lighting of the Advent wreath. The singing of Christmas carols will begin Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m. and a family mass will start at 5 p.m. Midnight mass will begin with carols at 11:30 p.m. A Christmas morning mass will be said at 9.

Trinity Baptist Church, 2705 Gekeler Lane, will present the Christmas story and carols at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Pastor Roger Cochran will lead the children’s program and the music.

Christmas services will start at the First Baptist Church, 1702 Sixth St., with a 7:30 p.m. service tonight at The Door. The Sunday service will begin at 10 a.m. with Sunday school for all ages at 8:45 a.m. The Christmas Eve service begins at 6 p.m.

Sunday’s 10 a.m. service at Faith Lutheran Church, 104 S. 12th St., will feature carols, and a candlelight service on Christmas Eve will begin at 7 p.m., both featuring the choir. A carol service Christmas morning will begin at 10.

The Sunday school Christmas pageant will be part of the 9 a.m. Sunday service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The Rev. Karen Lewis will celebrate the Holy Eucharist. Adult Sunday school begins at 8 a.m. in the library.

Victory Christian Church, 1020 Jefferson Ave., will have a children’s Christmas program at 10 a.m. Sunday. A birthday party on Christmas Day to celebrate the savior’s birth a come-as-you-are party with communion will begin at 7 p.m. There will be music and refreshments.

Pastor Mark Schlessman will preach on "Becoming Bethlehem" at the 10:50 a.m. service on the fourth Sunday of Advent at the First Christian Church, 901 Penn Ave. Two candlelight communion services will be held on Christmas Eve, at 6:30 and 11 p.m. A nursery will be available.

Valley Fellowship’s Sunday service begins at 10:02 a.m., and the Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 6 p.m. The public is invited, said co-pastor Bill Miller.

The congregation will read the Christmas story at the 10 a.m. Sunday service at the Grande Ronde Community Church, 410 Fir St. Music will be provided by soloists and the choir. At 6 p.m. the choir from Damascus Road Church will join in presenting the cantata, "Did You Ever Wonder." A reception will follow.

"Start at the Manger, Then Go to the Cross," a Christmas cantata by David Guthrie, will be presented at the New Life Center, 10700 S. Walton Road, by Harvester’s Nazarene Church beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at the First Presbyterian Church at 9:30 a.m. Sunday with music from the chancel choir and handbells. Services on Christmas Eve will be at 5, 7:30 and 11 p.m. The early service is for and by young people; the late service will be a reflective celebration of communion.

UNION

A Christmas Eve Mass will be said at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Union at 7 p.m.

Reading from Scripture on the birth of Jesus, along with candles and carols, will begin at the First Baptist Church of Union at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve.

A youth community Christmas program at the United Methodist Church in Union will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Wallowa County

ENTERPRISE

A children’s Christmas pageant will begin at the Enterprise Community Church at 11 a.m. Sunday. A Christmas Eve candlelight service with carols, special vocal groups and a candle-lighting ceremony will begin at 10 p.m.

JOSEPH

A Christmas Eve candlelight service with special music will begin at 7 p.m. at the Joseph Baptist Church, 107 N. Main St.

WALLOWA

"Faith Working Through Love" will be the topic of the lesson at the Wallowa Church of Christ at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services Sunday. Faith, motivated by love, leads to God’s saving grace.

The Wallowa Christian Church, on the corner of Highway 82 and Spruce Street, will have a Christmas Eve service beginning at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the birth of Jesus in song and message.
