Eastern Oregon pole vault coach Tim Troutman was nervous before junior Shawn Trimble vaulted at the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, this weekend.

Trimble soon erased those worries as he cleared the opening height at 15 feet, 7 inches Friday.

He went on to finish fifth (16-1) to become a two-time All-American. The top eight at this meet make All-American.

Trimble picked up his first All-American honor in the Division III outdoor championships last year.

"He’s pumped," Troutman said about Trimble.

The winning height came from sophomore Hans Schmidt (Wisconsin-LaCrosse), who vaulted 17-1.

Jon Wagner (Wisconsin-Oshkosh), Trimble and Kyle Wolf (Wilmington College) all finished with the same height and were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, based on fewer misses.

The vaulters have three tries at clearing the height. If they all clear the same height, the vaulters go back to the height before.

Wagner cleared the height before on his first attempt, while Trimble cleared it on his second attempt.
