Maxine Williams, 84, of Sun City, Calif., and formerly of North Powder, died Jan. 18 at a care center. Burial will be in the North Powder Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born April 18, 1920, to Walter Vincent and Marquerite Leila Gardner McGrath in Union and grew up at North Powder. Her father, a coal dealer, served as mayor there and led a dance band. She graduated from high school, and in 1939 she married Russell Williams. In 1951 his job with Basche-Sage Hardware in Baker City took them to Payette, Idaho, where she had a job in the high school lunchroom. She worked for the city of Payette and in 1961 became deputy treasurer for Payette County. She retired with her husband to Sun City in 1978.

She was a member of the Catholic Church, and organized bridge marathons. She enjoyed knitting, reading, entertaining and traveling.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Diane and Gary Wilson of Washington D.C., and Maryann Green of Tacoma, Wash.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Davis of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Toney and Ella Williams, both of Baker City; and other relatives. Her husband, a brother, Kenneth McGrath, a sister-in-law, Christine McGrath, and an infant daughter, Leila Belle Williams, all died earlier.

Frances J. "Sue" Tucori, 85, of La Grande died Feb. 4 at a local care center. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sarah Morningstar Stanton officiating. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tucori was born May 25, 1919, in Stronghurst, Ill. Her father was Carl Jacobson; her mother’s name has been lost. She attended nursing school and served in the Navy as a lieutenant in the Nurse Corp in San Diego, Calif. She married Pete J. Tucori. They later moved to La Grande where she worked as a nurse at Grande Ronde Hospital.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, serving as a lay minister, and was a member of St. Anne’s Guild. She was also active with various charitable organizations, including Shelter from the Storm, the Oregon Heart Association, hospice and the food bank. People were her hobby and she would help anyone in need.

Survivors include a children and their spouses, Pete and Eileen Tucori of Hillsboro, and Frank Tucori of La Grande; one grandson and other relatives. Her husband and a brother, Carl "Jake" Jacobson, died earlier.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St.

Mildred Irene Withers, 82, of Wallowa died Jan. 29 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise. Burial was at Enterprise Cemetery.

Mrs. Withers was born Nov. 2, 1922, to Earl and Halley Pinkley in Joseph. She graduated from Enterprise High School and attended Eastern Oregon Normal School for a year. On June 13, 1953, she married Bob Withers in La Grande. They settled in Wallowa where they had dry cleaning shop. She helped out at the county offices during tax season. The couple retired in 1992. She was a member of the Wallowa Christian Church and was active in the Ladies’ Aid. She enjoyed dancing, gathering mushrooms and huckleberries, collecting figurines, reading and keeping houseplants.

Survivors include her husband of Wallowa; children, Bob Withers of Hermiston and Linda Stephens of Forest Grove; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Antoinette C. Sinclair, 89, of Redmond and formerly of North Powder died Feb. 1. Burial was at Deschutes Memorial Gardens in Bend.

Mrs. Sinclair was born Dec. 28, 1915, to Benjamin nd Dorothea Blais in Eugene. The family moved to Clover Creek in 1921. She attended school in North Powder and graduated from high school in 1932 at St. Francis Academy in Baker City. In 1936 she graduated from Southern Oregon State Normal School, and taught at Herford, Vale, Redmond and Bend until retirement in 1974. On Jan. 28, 1952, she married Randall P. Sinclair in Bend.

Survivors include a brother, Phillip Blais of Cove; a stepdaughter, Janice Kerr of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; and other relatives. her husband and a stepson died earlier.

Mark Carlyle Warren, 44, of La Grande died Jan. 31 in Kirkuk, Iraq. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the La Grande National Guard Armory. Full military honors will be presented.

Mark was born May 17, 1960, the son of Howard and Wanda (Sutton) Warren in Hermiston. He attended schools in La Grande and graduated from high school in 1979. In 1979 he married Carol Ann DuBosch in La Grande.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps on Sept. 24, 1981. His four years of active duty included a tour in Lebanon and Grenada.

In 1985 he returned to La Grande where he worked as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad.

He joined the Oregon Army National Guard on Feb. 9, 1990. Throughout the 1990s he progressed through the ranks, culminating in being promoted to sergeant first class on July 18, 2002. During this time, he held positions such as assistant squad leader in a scout platoon, M1A1 tank gunner and tank commander, as well as platoon sergeant.

His National Guard battalion was activated last summer and deployed to Iraq last fall.

SFC Warren was known for his outstanding marksmanship and his ability to teach others the skills needed to become fine marksmen. Because of this, he was given the additional duties as the battalion marksmanship coordinator. In this duty, he helped organize, conduct and participate in rifle marksmanship matches throughout the United States including 29 Palms, Calif., and Little Rock, Arkansas.

He also took great pride in helping train young soldiers in an additional role as the noncommissioned officer in charge of the recruit training company, and developing future officers as NCOIC and associate professor of military science of the Guard Officer Leadership Detachment (GOLD) program at Eastern Oregon University.

SFC Warren’s awards include the Combat Action Ribbon (Marine Corps), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, NCO professional development ribbon, and four Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals.

He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps Cryptological Society and the United Transportation Union. He enjoyed marksmanship, hunting and woodworking.

Survivors include his sons Christopher Warren, Michael Warren and Ryan Warren, and former wife, Carol Ann Warren, all of La Grande; mother and stepfather, Richard and Wanda Davies of La Grande; sister, Tara Warren; fiancee Mary Calloway; a niece and two nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

His father, a sister and an uncle preceded him in death.

Agnes Rebecca Hicks, 80, of Joseph and formerly of Elgin, died Feb. 7 at a care center. A graveside service will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday Feb. 12 at the Elgin Cemetery with Pastor David Bruce of the Enterprise Christian Church officiating. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hicks was born Feb. 9, 1924, to Arthur Elvige and Annie K. King McCain in Cullman, Ala. On Nov. 13, 1944, she married James Hicks in Mobile, Ala. They moved to Oregon in 1946.

She was a member of the Enterprise Christian Church, and was a charter member of the Elgin VFW Auxiliary, where she worked her way up through all of the chairs. She enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include her husband of Joseph; children and their spouses, James Hicks Jr. of Joseph, and Larry and Paulette Hicks of Portland; a sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Phil Chrusoskie of Imbler; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives. A son, Stephen Dale Hicks, and two brothers and a sister, died earlier.

Andrew Guy Boyd, 85, of Wallowa County died Feb. 5 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. A private family memorial service will be held.

Mr. Boyd was born May 14, 1919, in Pine Bluff, Ark. He attended the University of Arkansas, Texas A&M and Washington State University. He served in the Army in the 159th Infantry during World War II and married Margaret Carroll in 1944. He worked as a cattle buyer and feedlot manager for Seattle Packing Company and farmed in Wallowa County since 1968.

Survivors include children, Kathryn Otis of Renton, Wash., Joseph Boyd of Tacoma, Wash., W. "Pat" Boyd and Peter Boyd, both of Seattle, Wash., Denise Dawson of Joseph, and Sharon Beach of Friday Harbor, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Fred Peter Hodgson, 43 of Umatilla and formerly of North Powder died Feb. 3 in Richland, Wash. of natural causes. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday Feb. 10 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday Feb. 11 at the North Powder Community Church with Pastor Roger Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at the North Powder Cemetery.

Mr. Hodgson was born Jan. 28, 1962, to Fredrick and Phyllis Peters Hodgson in Sacramento, Calif. The family moved to North Powder in 1969. He graduated from Powder Valley High School in 1980, and graduated from Eastern Oregon College with a bachelor’s degree in business, arts and accounting.

He worked in Weiser, Idaho, and Salem before settling in the Umatilla area where he worked for Con-Agra Foods, Inc. in Boardman for 15 years. He was a past member of the Hermiston Lutheran Church, and enjoyed computers, traveling, helping others, and playing video games, golf and hockey.

Survivors include his mother of La Grande; brothers and their spouses, Ross and Sue Hodgson of Union, Mark Hodgson of La Grande, and Tom Hodgson of North Powder; and other relatives. His father died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Daniels Chapel.

Beaulah Alma Hynd, 89, of La Grande died Feb. 2 at a local care center. A private service will be held.

Mrs. Hynd was born July 28, 1915, to Earl and Ada Eskelson in Lexington. On May 19, 1937, she married Ewing Hynd. The couple were ranchers in Umatilla and Morrow counties and lived in Ukiah and Hermiston. She moved to La Grande in 1999 to be near a granddaughter. She was a member of the Good Sams Club and the Cowbelles, where she served as president of the local and state organizations. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, camping, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, John Hynd of Ukiah and Yuma, Ariz.; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her husband and a sister, Zelma Lulay, died earlier.

Ella May Huff, 76, of Gooding, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande died Feb. 5 at a care center. Viewing be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday Feb. 11 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday Feb. 12 at the La Grande LDS Stake Center, 1802 Gekeler Lane. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mrs. Huff was born March 11, 1928, to Joseph Lawrence and Charlotte Skeen Keown in La Grande. On Aug. 1, 1950, she married Edwin Albert Huff in Lewiston, Idaho. The couple owned H & H Grocery near Riveria Elementary School. In 1982 the Riveria PTA gave her an award for her years of service to the children, which she proudly displayed in her home.

She was a member of the LDS Church and held many positions including that of historian for the 4th Ward. Ella was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crochet. Her world revolved around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Sharon and Frank Cheney of Gooding, Idaho, and Joyce Randolph of Fairview; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Davidson, and her stepmother, Ruth Keown, both of Clarkston, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Betty Huff, of Woodburn, and other relatives. Her husband, a son-in-law, Chuck Randolph, and a brother-in-law, Marion Huff, all died earlier.

Doris Nita Tolman Thompson, 72, of Sherwood and formerly of La Grande died Feb. 1 at a hospital in Tualatin. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday Feb. 10 at the Palace of Praise United Pentecostal Church in Beaverton with Pastor Larry Bankston officiating, and a service at River View Cemetery in Portland. Attrell’s Sherwood Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thompson was born Oct. 14, 1932, to Howard and Celia L. "Bessie" Leatherman Kinney in Rosston, Okla. The family moved to Caldwell, Idaho, and to Ordway, Colo., where she married Herbert Martin. In 1966 she married Oscar Tolman and lived in Vale and La Grande. In 2004 she moved to Sherwood. A third marriage was annuled.

She enjoyed collecting recipes, cooking for family and friends and being with her childrena nd grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Sandra Martin of Milwaukie, Beverly Dimick of Hermiston, Gene Martin of Courtney, B.C., Canada, Melvin Martin of La Grande, Gary Martin of Portland, Greg Martin of Hermiston, Bob Tolman of Sherwood and Ron Tolman of Hermiston; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Six sisters and five brothers died earlier.

Donald L. Parr, 91 of Elgin died Feb. 7 at Grande Ronde Hospital. At his request there will be no public services. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parr was born Dec. 31, 1913, to Milton and Carrie German Parr in Newcastle, Neb. On Oct. 29, 1938, he married Betty Schuder in Newcastle and they moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked for the city as a bus driver and street-car driver. Later they moved to Portland where he sold insurance before settling in Elgin in 1986. He was one of the oldest members in Oregon of A.A. and had 55 years of sobriety. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, traveling, children and, most of all, helping others.

Survivors include his wife of Elgin; children and their spouses, Gary and Linda Parr of Enterprise, Jo Anne and Ron Pyle of Blackstone, Va., and Dennis and Colleen Parr of Elgin; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and other relatives. Two sisters, Bernice McKinley and Phyllis Dougherty, and a brother, Leslie Parr, all died earlier.

Margy Edwards-Little, 54, of Oregon City and formerly of La Grande died Jan. 2 after a long illness.

Mrs. Little was born Sept. 22, 1959, to Earl and Donna Edwards in La Grande. She grew up in La Grande and graduated from Brigham Young University and Portland State University. She married Richard Little and taught for over 30 years in Portland public schools, most of that time at James John Elementary School. She enjoyed teaching, being with children and her pets.

Survivors include a daughter, Megan Little of Oregon City; a stepson, Justin Little; a sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Denny Brown; a sister-in-law, Kay Alderson; 10 step-siblings and other relatives. Her husband, her parents, a stepfather, Wallace Campbell, and a sister, Sharon Edwards, all died earlier.
