Mabel Rose Roach, 94, of La Grande died March 13 at her home. A memorial service was held today March 22 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. A private burial will be in Pendleton.

Mrs. Roach was born Jan. 27, 1911, to Holly and Dilly Cramer Leathers in Hardman. In 1930 she married Charles Roach and they ranched in Grant County until retirement when they moved to Pendleton. In 1997 she moved to La Grande to be near family. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and the grange. She enjoyed sewing and fussing over people and cooking. She made excellent bread.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Carol Warren of La Grande; three great-grandsons and other relatives. Her husband and children, Charles "Brownie" Roach and Joan DuBosch, and siblings, Audry, Carl, Roy, Lloyd, Wayne, Archie and Grace, all died earlier.

Elsie Josanna Schindler, 97, of Enterprise died March 19 at a care center. At her request there will be no services.

Mrs. Schindler was born Dec. 31, 1907, to Henry and Clara Alfart Golterman in Worns, Neb. On Feb. 22, 1934, she married James Everett Schindler in California. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include children, James Schindler of Paradise, Calif., Querida Tellkamp of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Janet Wescott of Pleasant Hills, Calif., Diane Snodgrass of Enterprise, and Dorothy Teague of Brookings; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Emig of Los Angeles, Calif. Her husband died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Wallowa Valley Care Center in care of Bollman Funeral Home, 315 W. Main St., Enterprise.

Ronald Leroy Feik, 63, of La Grande died March 17 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday March 22 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 23 at Daniels Chapel. Burial will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.

Mr. Feik was born May 31, 1941, to Floyd and Andrea Ainsworth Feik in La Grande. He attended school in Imbler and helped on the family farm, and later was his parent’s caregiver. He most recently worked for New Day Enterprises.

He loved people, going to church and collecting Teddy bears. Every Friday he went to the senior center for lunch and danced. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing. He was proud of his accomplishments at New Day Enterprises. He laughed and joked easily and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his sister, Laura McKinnis of Imbler; a brother and sister-in-law, Merle and Bertha Feik of La Grande; and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to New Day Enterprises in care of Daniels Chapel.

Maria Angilina "Angie" Plummer, 53, of Missoula, Mont., and formerly of Summerville died March 21 at her home after a long illness. A celebration of life will begin t 2 p.m. Friday March 25 at Montana Cremation and Memorial Society, 3035 S. Russell St.

Ms. Plummer was born April 12, 1951, to Van W. and Leontina Serradiminga Plummer in La Grande. She grew up in Summerville and married Rick Armstrong. She enjoyed reading, camping, exploring the mountains on her four-wheeler, traveling in her motor home, fishing, hunting, bowling, and playing cards and Scrabble. She was known for her loyalty to friends, her gift with animals and her graciousness, perseverance and gusto.

Survivors include her husband of Missoula; children and their spouses, Tina and Terry Sunderland, Lafe and Chris Shoopman, Dawn and Lenny Howard, and amanda Armstrong; a sister, Annie Maze; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Cass Plummer; five grandchildren and other relatives.

Dameon Michael Taylor, infant son of Tralana and Chris Taylor Ollendort, died March 14 at Oregon Health Sciences University. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 28 at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Baby Dameon was born March 9 in La Grande.

Survivors include his parents and a brother, Anthony Taylor, all of La Grande. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Anita Dunning, 60, of La Grande, died Tuesday March 22 at her home. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday April 1 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. A celebration of life and reception will follow in the parish hall.

Mrs. Dunning was born July 7, 1944, to Clarence and Doris Holt Farr in Sun Valley, Calif. On Sept. 5, 1964, she married Jack Dunning in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Brookings Harbor before moving to La Grande in 1980. She worked as a personal banker for Wells Fargo Bank until her retirement.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and served as treasurer on the executive board, and worked with the church women’s group on spring luncheons, rummage sales, bazaars and St. Theresa’s Circle. In her younger years she had been a 4-H leader and raised and showed Labrador retrievers. As a young woman she traveled to Germany and Hawaii.

She enjoyed traveling to historical places, boating, camping, fishing, ceramic classes and most recently college computer classes, listening to opera, watching her daughters and granddaughters compete on their horses, watching Imbler School District sports, and going to the Union County Fair. She will be remembered for her humor and laughter.

Survivors include her husband of La Grande; children and their spouses, Trish and Rich McDaniel of Summerville, and Tammie and Mike McDaniel of Osburn, Idaho; four grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ginger Farr of Flat Rock, N.C., and other relatives.

Shirley Ann Tholander, 64, of La Grande, and formerly of Santee, Calif., died March 18 at her home. A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends.

Shirley was born Aug. 21, 1940, the daughter of Harold Warren and Lily Pearl (Robbins) Simmons in Mountain Pine, Ark. In 1959 she married Kenneth Lee Kerl. The marriage later ended in divorce. In 1979 she married Glen Tholander, and he preceded her in death.

She moved to La Grande in 1997 from Santee and loved spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her children, Karen Johnson of Summerville, Kevin Kerl of La Grande and Keith Kerl of California; six grandchildren; on great grandchild; brothers, William Simmons of Nampa, Calif., Roger Simmons of Boise and Wayne Simmons of Santee.
