Delano Eugene Bolen, 69, of Salem and formerly of La Grande died April 8. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 13 at the Evangelical Church, 455 Locust St. N.E., in Salem. Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bolen was born July 14, 1934, to Virgil and Opal Clark Bolen in Sciota, Ill. He lived in La Grande for many years before moving to Salem in 1980.

He was an administrator at Chemeketa Community College for 16 years before retiring in 1996. He and his wife, Staryl, ran the Bolen Quarter Horse Farm. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical Church and enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife of Salem; children, Michael Bolen and James Bolen, both of Salem, Pamela Wolf of Seattle, Fallie Calder of Beaverton, and Christine Chase of Scappoose; 12 grandchildren; and two brothers, Leon Bolen of Dallas, and Lee Bolen of La Grande.

David Clarence Buffam Sr., 75, of Enterprise died April 9 at a care center. At his request there will be no funeral. A memorial service will be held later in the summer.

Mr. Buffam was born March 1, 1930, to Clarence and Lois Ratty Buffam in Portland. He attended the University of Oregon and Vanport College, and in August of 1950 he married Patricia Johnston. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and in the Oregon Air National Guard.

He worked for the steamship agencies, Alexander & Baldwin Ltd., and Balfour, Guthrie & Co., then began a career in international freight forwarding with George S. Bush & Co. Inc. and J.T. Steeb & Co. In 1972 he started his own company, Ted. L. Rausch Co. of Oregon, and served as CEO and chairman of the board until his retirement in 1987.

He was the founding chairman of the Pacific Coast Council of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders, and one of the founding organizers of the West Coast Cargo Conference. He was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Maritime Affairs, the Oregon District Export Council and many other organizations, along with one of the first trade delegations to the People’s Republic of China. Among the awards he received, his favorites were the 1984 Boss of the Year from the Portland Women’s Shipping Club, and the Old Salt award in 1986 from the Portland Shipping Club.

After retirement the family moved to Sunriver where he worked in property management and was part owner of Trips Travel Agency. He organized a trekking adventure to Nepal, and a trip to the 1987 America’s Cup in Perth, Australia, and traveled with his wife around the world. The couple moved to Washington, D.C., where he served as executive director of the Service Corp of Retired Executives. In 1995 the couple moved to Enterprise, where he opened a SCORE chapter, counseling small businesses in Wallowa and Union counties. In 1997 he traveled to Hungary with the International Executive Service Corp.

Survivors include his wife of Enterprise; children and their spouses, David Buffam Jr. of New York, N.Y., Steven and Luann Buffam of Camas, Wash., Leslie and Gary Graham of Union, Janis Buffam of Enterprise; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings and their spouses, Paul and Elizabeth Buffam of Beaverton, Larry and Laura Buffam of New York, and Nancy and David Richter of Texas, and other relatives.

Janice R. Lockwood, 62, of La Grande died April 9 of natural causes at a local care center. Viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday April 16 at Loveland Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life and graveside service will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Lockwood was born June 28, 1942, to Dix and Leah Hansen Rogers in La Grande. She was the owner of a local second-hand store for several years. She enjoyed fishing, camping, the outdoors, arts and crafts, and trips to the Wildhorse Casino.

Survivors include her sister, Sherry Royston of La Grande; a stepbrother, Jeff Powell of Moses Lake, Wash., and other relatives. A brother died earlier.

David M. DeLashmutt, 88, of Union died April 11 at his home. Loveland Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DeLashmutt was born Jan. 23, 1917, to George Elzzy and Loretta Fulwider DeLashmutt in Clyde Park Mont. He attended schools in Pendleton and La Grande, and served in the Navy during World War II.

In 1946 he married Mary Irene Kilpatrick in De Funiak Spring, Fla. They lived in La Grande and had a ranch. After a divorce he married Margaret Logan in 1962 in Buhl, Idaho. They also divorced. Later in life he moved to Reno Nev., and became a chef.

After retiring he moved to Union. He enjoyed gardening, astronomy, homeopathic remedies, tinkering and volunteering. He was active in community affairs.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Charles and Sheila DeLashmutt of Woodstock, Ga., and Dianna and Bryan Hurd of Yuba City, Calif.; siblings, Joseph Delashmutt of Gooding, Idaho, William Delashmutt of La Grande, Walter Delashmutt of Oak Harbor, Wash., Mary Lou Delashmutt and Lora Jane Welk both of Apple Valley Calif., and Lois Rogers of La Grande; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. Three brothers, George, Claude and Daniel DeLashmutt, all died earlier.

Memorials may be made to the Union VFW in care of Loveland Chapel.

Cleve W. Coppin, 90, of Joseph died April 11. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Friday April 15 at the Prairie Creek Cemetery with Craig Strobel officiating.

Mr. Coppin was born May 31, 1914, to E.J. and Marian Woolsey Coppin. He was a rancher and during World War II worked for the War Foods Administration. On June 20, 1942, he married Caryl Leehmann in Lakeview. He was a charter member of the Wallowa County Woolgrowers, and served as secretary-treasurer for 25 years of the Wallowa Valley Improvement District. He helped develop the ditch system and the Joseph Hydro Project. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Enterprise for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife of Joseph; children, Don Coppin of Elgin, Mike Coppin and Susan Coppin, both of Joseph; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Verne Coppin of Hankinson, N.D., and other relatives.

Doris I. Davidson, 92, of Milton-Freewater and formerly of La Grande died April 7 in Walla Walla. At her request there will be no funeral. Burial will be at the Helix Cemetery.

Mrs. Davidson was born May 23, 1912, to Lawrence and Pearl Spencer Countryman in Webster, S.D. She graduated from high school in Ipswich, S.D., in 1930 and began nurse’s training. She served as a missionary nurse in Africa for two years and served in the Army Nurses Corp during World War II, reaching the rank of captain. On June 14, 1959, she married Lloyd A. Davidson in Yakima, Wash. The couple lived in La Grande where they helped with the Gideon Auxiliary. She worked as a nurse in various places until her retirement in 1973, and after her husband’s death in 1988 she moved back to Milton-Freewater. She enjoyed gardening and walking with friends. She was a devout Christian, and will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her sense of humor.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Patty Amptman, Carol Moore, Georgia Dentel, Wayne Mack and Dennis Countryman Jr.

James Patrick "Pat" McDonald, 45, of La Grande died April 12 at Grande Ronde Hospital of natural causes. Viewing will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 4th St. A celebration of life will begin at 5 p.m.

Mr. McDonald was born May 22, 1959, to James and Alene Towns McDonald in Kansas City, Mo. He came to La Grande in 1999 to work for his brother at Rain Roofing. He married Kiki Barnett, and after a divorce, Shannon McElroy. They were also divorced.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Fox McDonald and his mother, both of La Grande; children, Rachel McDonald of Clinton, Mo., and Brittnee McDonald of Kansas City, Mo., siblings, Joe McDonald of Twin Falls, Idaho, Debbie Carlson of Albuquerque, N.M., Mike McDonald of Summerville, and Kandi Maschmann of York, Neb.

His father and son, Matthew, both died earlier.
