Norma Louise Wilkinson, 85, of La Grande died Jan. 20 at a local care center. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. today at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born Sept. 4, 1920, to Jess and Blanche Knox Cox in Union. She graduated from Union High School and on June 26, 1938, she married Gilbert Wilkinson in La Grande. The couple had a farm in Telocaset from the 1940s to the mid-1950s. She moved to Oregon City in the mid-1970s.

She enjoyed needlework, embroidery and dancing. She worked as a tour guide at the McLoughlin House in Oregon City, and was a member the Catholic Church.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Dennis and Pamela Wilkinson of Cove, and Diana and Michael Koon of Brooklyn, Mich.; a sister, Lodema Asper of La Grande; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Her husband, a sister, Edna Cox, and four brothers, Noy, Leyton, Jack and Bob Cox, all died earlier.

Laurence A. Drew, 81, of La Grande died Jan. 5 at a local care center. A casual celebration of life and a potluck will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at the La Grande Country Club. A private memorial will be held in Duck Lake, Mont., in the summer.

Mr. Drew was born April 20, 1924, to Ralph and Louise Deeney Drew in Roberts, Mont. He graduated from Kalispell High School in 1942 and served in the Navy during World War II. On June 24, 1977, he married Virginia Rivers Flanery in Boise.

He worked for the Kalispell Police Department for 20 years and retired as an assistant chief. He was a past president of the Montana Police Protection Association and received awards for sharpshooting. He later owned and operated an RV dealership for Fleetwood (Terry Trailers), Big Sky Campers and Kit Manufacturing for 13 years in Kalispell. He then moved to La Grande and managed the RV division for M.J. Goss for five years.

He was a member of the Elks, the American Legion, Eagles, VFW, Ducks Unlimited, the RV Dealers Association and the La Grande Country Club where he was a past board member. He was an Eagle Scout and sportsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and smoking and canning game.

Survivors include his wife of La Grande; children, Stephen Drew of Homer, Alaska, and Kathleen Drew of Palmer, Alaska; a stepson, John Flanery of Clackamas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A son, Terry Naumann, a sister, Helen Cash, and a brother, James "Bud" Drew, all died earlier.

William A. "Bill" Ware, 84, of La Grande died Jan. 19 at a local care center. A memorial service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at Trinity Baptist Church in Spokane with a reception afterwards. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ware was born Sept. 22, 1921, to Walter and Alma Ware in Zenith, Ga. He graduated from high school in 1939, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On May 1, 1945, he married Ruth Johnson. He worked for Columbia Electric, which later became Amfac Electric. He retired in 1986. He helped start Trinity Baptist Church in Spokane and served in the Fairmont Memorial Association, Vision Inc. World Mission, Western Baptist Seminary, the governor’s council, the Republican Finance Committee, the Union Gospel Mission, Riverview Retirement Community and other committees.

He was a member of the Spokane Club and the Downtown Rotary Club. He enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing and being with his grandchildren.

He had a southern sense of humor and hospitality, and will be remembered as a great story-teller who also loved to sing.

Survivors include his wife; children and their spouses, Bonnie and Wayne Pickens of La Grande and Bruce and Jodi Ware of Louisville, Ken.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Mullen of Tulsa, Okla.

Gary David Early, 53, of Spokane died Jan. 16 at his home of natural causes.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Spokane with Rev. Robert McNeese officiating. Hennessey Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Early was born Nov. 5, 1952, to Edward and Vandene Early in Seattle. He graduated from Blanchet High School and Shoreline Community College, and worked for the Denny’s Restaurant Co. for 24 years. He bought franchises in Spokane in 1992 and later in La Grande.

He enjoyed motorcycle road trips, maps and geography.

Survivors include his wife, Patti, of Spokane; four children, Elizabeth, Colleen, Maggie and Mike Early; his mother of Seattle; siblings and their spouses, Diana and Dan Roulst, and Don and Barb Early, all of Kent, Wash., Paul Early of Bothell, Wash., and Barbara and Jude Marcal of Auburn, Calif; and other relatives. His father died earlier.

Wren Case, 88, of Cove, died Jan. 19 at his home. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, 901 Penn Ave. Burial will follow at the Island City Cemetery.

Mr. Case was born Dec. 12, 1917, to William Jasper and Ella VanBlokland Case in Alicel. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1936 and farmed with his brothers for over 30 years. On May 29, 1940, he married Lovene Morris in Lower Cove.

He served on the boards for the Alicel School District, elections, the Salvation Army, the Soil Conservation District, the Union County Grain Growers and the Grande Ronde Model Watershed. He was a diamond pioneer, part of the Oregon Wheat Commission and Wheat League for 14 years, and was the Pacific Northwest Grain chairman.

He was a member of the South Forty, the Elks, Toastmasters, the Rusty Wheels Car Club, the First Christian Church and the American Sunday School Union. He enjoyed the mountains, old cars, motorcycles, snowmobiling, ice skating, farming and being with his family. He played the piano and organ by ear.

Survivors include his children, Jerry Case, Stan Case and La Della and Dennis Wood, all of Cove; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and other relatives. His wife, four brothers, John, Elmer, Hugh and Homer Case, a sister, Vera Plank, and a grandson, Micha Wood, all died earlier.

Juanita Ione Moran, 91, of La Grande died Jan. 23 at her home. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday Jan. 27 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St. Private burial will be at Hillcrest East Cemetery.

Mrs. Moran was born Nov. 9, 1914, to Edward and Ethel Goodrich Albee in Forest Grove. She graduated from school in Washington and on Aug. 9, 1937, married Harry R. Moran in Snohomish, Wash. The couple served as missionaries on the Navaho reservation in Arizona. She enjoyed playing music at nursing homes, sewing, beadwork and reading the Bible.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Harry Moran Jr. and Marie Moran of Arizona; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and other relatives. Her husband died earlier.

Raymond Jerry Shafer, 59, of La Grande died Jan. 21 at the Portland VA Medical Center. A memorial service will begin at

2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1511 26th St. A potluck reception will follow at the Rendezvous RV Park rec room, 2632 Bearco Loop.

Mr. Shafer was born Dec. 27, 1947, in La Grande. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and on Oct. 18, 1969, married Betty Cloninger. He worked as a meat cutter at Shop-n-Kart, and making glue-laminated logs in Montana. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include four children, Romona Kingsmith of Coos Bay, Kevin Shafer of Gresham, Troy Shafer of Island City and Kim Shafer of La Grande, and four grandchildren.

William Lawrence Reynolds, 77, of Enterprise died Jan. 24 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. At his request there will be no services.

Mr. Reynolds was born March 28, 1928, to Cecil and Madge Miller Reynolds in Wabash, Ind. He served in the Army as a medic in World War II and in Korea. He graduated from Butler University and was a trooper with the Indiana Highway Patrol. After graduating from DePaul Law School he became an attorney and served as Wallowa County District Attorney until his retirement in 2004.

He was a member of the Christian Science Church and the Rotary Club. After the death of his first wife, Ruth, in 1993, he married Jaenette Rea Roemmich on May 1, 1994.

He enjoyed painting, woodworking and carving ducks, and was a great supporter of the artists of Enterprise and Joseph. He also enjoyed flying and was interested in political causes.

Survivors include his wife of Enterprise; children and their spouses, James and Judy Cassidy of Stevensville, Mich., Sherry Price of Tacoma, Wash., Parker and Khris Price of Thermopolis, Wash., and Troy and Melissa Price of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; siblings and their spouses, James and Dorothy Reynolds of Clearwater, Fla., Dorothy Henderson of Pacific Grove, Calif., Randy Roemmich and Richard Roemmich; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A brother-in-law, Roger, died earlier.

Clifford Eugene Huggins, 70, of Newberg and formerly of Pondosa died Dec. 19, 2005.

Mr. Huggins was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He graduated from Baker High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Audrey Evans in 1956, and moved to Portland in 1960. He was a police officer in Baker City and was a plumber for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife of Newberg; children, Rosalyn and Stephen; a sister, Toya Gilmore; and five grandchildren.

Harold Leonard Kellison, 84, of Kennewick, died Jan. 25 at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick. Viewing will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday Jan. 29 at Mueller’s Greenlee Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in College Place, Wash.

Mr. Kellison was born Oct. 3, 1921, to C.B. and Hazel Kellison in Billings, Mont. He worked for Montana State College training and breaking horses, and attended Mount Ellis Academy. On Oct. 5, 1940, he married Ethyle Stacy in Bozeman. He served in the Army during World War II and worked at Hanford as a steamfitter. The family lived in Burbank, Wash., Las Vegas, Nev., where he retired in1978, in Chiloquin, and in 1983 in Union. He did refrigeration work and also had a carpet business there. He moved back to the Tri-Cities after the death of his wife.

Survivors include children, Wilmetta Kellison-Earl, Marvin L. Kellison and Lynn Kellison-Holman; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Seven siblings, and one grandson all died earlier.

Eugenia Mable Thompson, 83, of La Grande died Jan. 23 at Grande Ronde Hospital. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday Jan. 28 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St. Burial will follow at Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson was born Nov. 3, 1922, to Cyris Lee and Doris Allegar Shawver in Pendleton. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1941 and in 1946 married marion Piercey. After his death in 1961, she married LeRoy Thompson in 1966.

Survivors include children, Doris Hulse, Charlotte Bauer, Bud Piercey, Sandy Turnbull, Christy Southard, Mary Eaton, Roberta, Tammy, Becky, Vicki, Ellen Blevins, LeRoy Thompson and Robert Thompson; a sister, Maydean Haydock and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Sherry Stein, 39, of Joseph died at her home Jan. 23 after a long illness. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. today at the Enterprise Christian Church in with David Bruce officiating.

Mrs. Stein was born Dec. 13, 1966, to Randall E. and Judith A. Sanders in Baker City. She graduated in 1985 from Joseph High School where she was valedictorian and an Oregon Scholar. In 1989 she graduated from Western Oregon State College.

She taught elementary school in Umatilla until 1991, and in Colville, Wash., until 1999. She married Jeff Stein July 14, 1990, in Joseph.

She was a member of the Enterprise Christian Church, and she enjoyed singing, art, riding horses and collecting antiques.

Survivors include her husband and two daughters, Adriana Kay, 12, and Jessica Lynn, 9, and her parents, all of Joseph; grandparents, Charles and Faye Clark of Enterprise and other relatives.
