SALEM Bill Farner of Joseph clarified his plans for the future after claiming his $8.8 million Megabucks jackpot prize. In the space on his claim form marked Work Phone Number, Farner filled in "none now."

Farner, 51, is the Oregon Lottery’s 203rd Megabucks millionaire. He matched all six numbers in the June 21, drawing, to win the $8.8 million prize. The winning numbers were 2-17-21-27-32-33.

Farner is no stranger to winning a big cash prize. Five years ago he was a contestant in a promotion on the Howard Stern show, and walked away with the $1 million prize.

Farner was accompanied to the Lottery office in Salem Friday by his son Grayson. He chose the annuity plan for prize payment, which provides the winner with 25 annual equal payments. Farner received his first prize check in the amount of $352,000, before state and federal taxes were withheld.

The winning ticket, one of 9,165 winning Megabucks tickets from the June 21 drawing, was purchased at Safeway in Enterprise. Farner used the Quick Pick method to select his winning combination of numbers. His $4 ticket displayed four sets of numbers. His big win came in the second set.

Farner, who now says he’s retired, was employed at the Safeway where he bought his winning ticket. He is a regular Oregon Lottery player who enjoys playing Oregon Lottery Scratch-its, Powerball, and the new Lucky Lines daily draw game, along with Megabucks.

In addition to Grayson, Farner has two other sons. He says that a portion of his prize money will be used to "help them out." He also strongly hinted that a new Ford Mustang GT Convertible could be in his future.

Farner’s prize is the second consecutive Megabucks jackpot won from a winning ticket purchased at a Safeway store. In March, James Cusick of Sandy won a $2.2 million Megabucks jackpot prize from a ticket purchased at Safeway #782, in Sandy.

Megabucks players have won more than $593 million in prizes since the first Megabucks ticket went on sale November 1985. Counting shared jackpots, there have been 267 Megabucks jackpot winners. The biggest Megabucks jackpot ever won was $30 million in November 2004.

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has earned over $4.2 billion for economic development, public education, state parks and watershed enhancements. In that same period, it has paid its players more than $10 billion in prizes.
