ENTERPRISE – 100 Years of Heritage, 1907 to 2007 is the theme for the Wallowa County Fair Aug. 4-11 at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds on N.W. First St. in Enterprise.

The celebration includes a scarecrow contest judged on originality, creativity, craftsmanship and expression of the fair theme. Creations and awards can be viewed Wednesday starting at 9:30 a.m.

The Hermiston Watermelon Growers of Hermiston are sponsoring a seed-spitting contest, which will be conducted during the Game Events at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11.

A $100 cash prize for the "Overall Best of Show" entry will be awarded along with cash prizes for Homemaker and Junior Homemaker of the fair.

Any resident of Wallowa County may enter in the Open Class competitions. There are special classes for youth, seniors and professionals. 4-H and FFA have separate divisions. Exhibitors may exhibit in all divisions in which they have products that have been made or produced since August of the previous year.

The fair board invites all organizations and businesses to participate in the community exhibit contest. Exhibits must be in place at the fairgrounds in Enterprise between 2 and 6 p.m. Tuesday or before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The Agri-Business Council of Oregon invites Wallowa residents to enter the 2007 Oregon’s Best Competitions, which include the Summer Recipe Challenge sponsored by the Oregon Dairy Farmers, the Down Home Favorites Recipe contest sponsored by Flav-R-Pac and Bob’s Best Home Baked for hand made and machine made yeast breads sponsored by Bob’s Red Mill Flours & Products.
