PENDLETON – One thing is for sure – Enterprise head coach Mike Crawford knows his team.

The Outlaws girls basketball team remains in the hunt for the Class 2A state title after a 52-49 win against Oakland Thursday.

Crawford knew after a lackluster performance his leading scorers – Summer DeSpain and Kayla Foster- would be back.

“There was no doubt about it,” Crawford said. “Summer and Kayla seized the opportunity.”

DeSpain led all scorers with 16 points, and Foster finished with 12 points.

The full-court press led to Enterprise’s success.

Post Tricia O’Leary turned into an assist machine. Playing at the back of the press, she picked up eight steals in the game. O’Leary turned those into fast break points with quick passes to the guards.

“Most of Summer and Kayla’s points came from dumping in the two’s,” Crawford said. “They worked hand-in-hand at the front of the press.

“They would force the bad pass, and Tricia found them on the break.”

Oakland didn’t go away quietly, using a 16-2 run to take the lead late in the third quarter.

A steal by O’Leary turned into a basket for Heather Bruce, tying the game 40-40 headed into the final quarter.

The Outlaws put all the starters back in at the opening on the final quarter. A 6-0 run pushed the lead to 46-40, and Enterprise made its free throws down the stretch for the win.

Sarah Butterfield added 11 points for the Outlaws.

Oakland was lead by Chelsea Spencer, Molly Earls and Amanda Humphreys. They each scored 11 points.

Enterprise will face Santiam at 1:30 p.m. today.

Santiam, ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A, defeated No. 1 Portland Christian 47-34.

Heidi Halemeier paced Sanitam with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Ashley Walczak added 14 points.
