Welcome back. That thought ran through La Grande softball head coach Kevin Kohr’s mind while watching his team play Friday.

The Tigers bounced back against Mac-Hi after falling to Fruitland twice Monday.

“I think those two games really woke them up,” Kohr said. “The girls looked refocused today, and came out really strong.

“They’re looking at the big picture.”

La Grande swept the doubleheader 15-1 and 12-1.

Sidney Brown opened the scoring in Game 1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.

La Grande broke the game open in the second inning, scoring seven times with only three hits.

Boo Christman doubled twice in the inning. Her second double cleared the bases to cap the inning.

“The girls stayed really patient at the plate,” Kohr said. “When they did get a pitch to hit, they made great contact.

“It was the whole line-up getting involved today. When you get production from everyone, it allows the hitters to relax. That helped out.”

The bottom three in the Tigers’ batting order went 3-for-8, led by Carley Miller. She singled and doubled in the game.

Christman picked up the win. She threw four innings and struck out five and allowed three hits.

“She struggled a little bit early on,” Kohr said. “But she was able to settle in after a little wildness. The girls feed off what we do on the field.”

The bats kept coming in Game 2, as the Tigers pounded 12 hits.

Jenny Denny, Cami Bell and Christman each collected two hits.

Christman hit a home run.

“These are two good wins,” Kohr said. “We were able to serpate ourselves from the rest of league.”

The Tigers hold a three game lead over the Pioneers with a 6-0 Greater Oregon League record. La Grande improved to 17-3 overall.

Mac-Hi sits in second place with a 7-8 overall record in 3-3 in league.

The Tigers will host Baker May 9.

La Grande swept the Bulldogs 3-2 and 8-3 April 17.
