Dec. 22 – Phyllis Hopkins, funeral, 1 p.m., Elgin Methodist Church; graveside services, Summerville Cemetery; reception, Methodist Church, Elgin
Kathelene Galloway, 45, of La Grande, died Dec. 20 at home. A complete obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Geneva Wallsinger, 94, of La Grande, died Dec. 19 at a local care center in La Grande. A complete obituary will be available later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph Wesley “Wes” Jarvis, 39, formerly of Summerville and Newberg, died Oct. 29 at his home in Austin, Texas. A service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center in La Grande.
Wes was born Dec. 30, 1969, to Joseph Woodell and Carole Joyce (Hedin) Jarvis in La Grande. While growing up Wes lived in Summerville and attended Imbler grade and high school. Then he moved to Newberg where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1988.
He attended Southern Oregon University in Ashland where he earned a bachelor of science degree in communication. After graduating from SOU in 1994, Wes worked for Coca Cola distributors in Wilsonville and later Olympia, Wash. He then moved to Dallas, Texas, where he became an electronics salesman with Circuit City. He later moved to Austin, where he worked in sales for Sears Grand until his death.
In 2003, Wes married Andrea Sulivan in Little Elm, Texas. The marriage ended in divorce.
In his youth he belonged to the George T. Cochrane Chapter of the Order of DeMolay in La Grande. He enjoyed his work and computers.
Survivors include his father, Joseph Woodell Jarvis of Cove, and his companion, Carol Gorham, of Pendleton; sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Joseph Hansen of Plano, Texas; grandmothers, Wanda Hedin of Salem and Marjorie Jarvis of La Grande; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carole, and his grandfathers, Joe W. Jarvis and Carl V. Hedin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Scottish Rite Clinics for help with treatment of childhood language disorders, the Home Endowment Fund of the Oregon Masonic-Eastern Star Home or any other charity in care of Daniels-Knopp, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande 97850.
William “Billy” Joe Roberts, 62, of Summerville, died Dec. 18 at his home. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lienkaemper Chapel in Vale. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery in Vale.
Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center in La Grande is in charge of arrangements.
Billy was born March 31, 1947, to Vern and Blanche (Fillis) Roberts in Ontario.He was educated in Harper and Vale. On Sept. 3, 1967, he married Linda Cooper in Payette, Idaho. He worked as a faller in the logging industry. They lived in the Vale area until 1986 when they moved to
La Grande. He enjoyed working on his home and hunting.
As one of 13 children, he was very close with his siblings and enjoyed spending time with them, his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Roberts of Summerville; daughter, Micki Roberts of La Grande; son, Michael Roberts of Fruitland, Idaho; siblings, Gene Roberts of Spokane, Jomay Hood of Parma, Idaho, Verna Lee and Chuck Viktora of Superior, Mont., Johnny Roberts of Moses Lake, Wash., Gary and Linda Roberts of Summerville, Linda and Roger Smith of Vale, Margaret and Therall Tuttle of Little Valley and Mary and Dick Palmer of Vale; four grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane, Don, Jimmy and Larry Roberts; and infant sister, Harriett Roberts.
