LOCAL FUNERALS AND VISITATIONS
Jan. 9 – Harold Brasure, celebration of life, 3 p.m., American Legion Post 43, La Grande
Donald A. Keefer, 89, of La Grande, died Dec. 22 at a local adult foster care home.
Private burial will be at Summerville Cemetery. Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center in La Grande is in charge of arrangements.
Donald was born July 4, 1920, to Albert and Lana (Pieper) Keefer in Imbler. When he was a young child, the family moved to La Grande where Donald began school at Riveria. He graduated from
La Grande High School with the Class of 1938. He worked as a meat cutter for Adam Cyr, Eldridge Packing and later Hyde’s Grocery from which he retired.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and worked as a cook for the Transportation Corps stationed in Alaska until he was honorably discharged as a Technician 4th grade.
Donald attended Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande.
Survivors include his cousins, Verne Pieper of Island City, Bill Pieper of La Grande and Ladeska Pieper Bell of Washington state and their families; and other extended family members.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church memorial fund.
Harold Dean King, 90, of Meacham, a former longtime Pendleton resident, died Dec. 24 at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande. Burial will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell, Idaho. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Harold was born Jan. 11, 1919, to Nathan G. and Maude P. Forney King at Boise. He grew up at Caldwell and on March 2, 1940, married Frances O. Taylor at Elko, Nev. He served with the 36th Infantry in France and Germany during World War II.
After his military service the family lived in Idaho until 1952 when they moved to Pendleton where he was employed at Empire Machinery and later at Pioneer Implement. In 1968 he and his wife returned to Idaho to care for his mother. He was employed at Kit Manufacturing in Caldwell until his retirement in 1990. He later lived at Fruitland and Marsing in Idaho before moving to Meacham in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Nancy Nyberg of Meacham, and Charlotte Forsyth of Ontario; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances in 1990; and by brothers, “Dwight” and Vernon.
Susie A. Young, 45, of La Grande, died Dec. 20 in Boise of natural causes. A wake will be held at a date to be announced. Cremation Society of Idaho is in charge of arrangements.
Susie was born April 17, 1964, to Nellie Aletha Jacoby and Edward Owen Jacoby at John Day. She was raised in Union and attended schools in the Union School District.
She loved tigers and being outdoors fishing and spending time with her kids.
Survivors include her children, Jason Daniel Neupauer, Anthony James Jacoby and Aletha Dawn Jacoby; siblings, Wilma Beatrice Larkin, Georgia Shank, Edward Jacoby, Corkey Jacoby and Terry Everidge; and one grandchild with one more on the way. She was preceded in death by parents, Nellie Aletha Jacoby and Edward Owen Jacoby.
