Duane ‘Buddy’ D. Reineccius

Elgin

1922-2012

Duane “Buddy” Dennis Reineccius, 89, a resident of Elgin and a former long-time resident of The Dalles, died March 13 at home in Elgin.

A service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in The Dalles with Pastor Chris Kramer officiating. A viewing will be held before the service on Monday. Burial will follow the service at Cascade Locks Cemetery with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

and#8203;He was born in Isanti County, Minn., on May 18, 1922, to George F. W. and Emma (Anderson) Reineccius. He was raised and educated in Minnesota where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Duane married Geraldine Ina Berg on Nov. 13, 1951. He lived in The Dalles and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed small engine repair and fishing.

He is survived by his children, Rod Reineccius of Salt Lake City, Utah, Paul Reineccius of The Dalles, Nancy Hjelm of Elgin, Pat Reineccius and his wife, Stefanie, of Cambridge, Ohio, Jim Reineccius and his wife, Leona, of Oregon City and Jeff Reineccius of Key West, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Janet; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Junior Reineccius; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; his parents; a son, Alan Wayne Otto; a daughter, Peggy Ann Hancock; and a grandson, Deland Jay Humphreys.

Earl E. Hoffman

Island City

1927-2012

Earl Edmond Hoffman, 84, a long-time resident of Island City, died March 13 in La Grande. A private family gathering will be held at Morgan Lake, just outside of La Grande, at a later date.

Earl was born July 19, 1927, in Halfway to William and Elizabeth (Mills) Hoffman. He worked in saw mills and in the logging industry most of his life. Earl loved to fish and also enjoyed hunting. He enjoyed watching baseball, especially since one of his grandsons played for the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team. Earl was very social and most would describe him as being “happy go-lucky.”

Earl is survived by his two brothers, Sam Horrell of Elgin and George Horrell of Richland; step-grandsons; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his wife, Janet.
