Three Leopards grab gold during trip to Eastern Oregon 1A meet

VALE – Cove picked up fourth and fifth place finishes in the two divisions of the Eastern Oregon 1A track meet Friday.
In the boys division, Greenleaf Friends won the meet 118 points just three and one-half points more than Idaho City, its Gem State rival.
Prairie City placed third with 75 points, just ahead of Cove (67.5) and Jordan Valley (47). Vale, the invitational’s host, was sixth with 39 points. Garden Valley followed (31.5), with Harper (22) edging ahead of Wilder (20.5) and Horseshoe Bend (17).
Crane was 11th with 16, while Canyon Springs (15), Council (14) and Adrian (9) rounded out the 14 teams.
Phil Allen was the only Leopard to grab a boys victory, winning the long jump (19-07).
Carl Gray picked up a pair of second places in the 800 meters (2:13.60) and the 1,500 meters (4:43.03).
He also anchored the second place 4×400 meter relay team to a 3:48.12 time and placed fourth in the high jump (5-10) right behind Allen (6-0). Hunter Reddington placed 10th in the 800 meters in 2:24.69.
Brandon Batty was second in the discus (118-04) and tied for third in the shot put (39-2).
Luke Bundren was 14th in the 100 meters (12.35), while Batty was clocked in 12.82 for 25th.
Bundren also placed eighth in the 200 meters in 25.24, while Sam Silveria took 16th (26.77).
Silveria also placed 14th in the long jump with a 16-11 leap.
Reddington, David DeVore, Allen and Gray placed second in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:48.12.
Cove girls tie for fifth
In the girls division, Cove was tied for fifth with Crane (40 points), while Vale cruised to the team win with 127 points. Idaho City was second (99), followed by Prairie City (45) and Rimrock (43). Horseshoe Bend was seventh with 39 points, followed by Harper (27) and Adrian (12). Garden Valley, Canyon Springs and Greenleaf Friends tied for 10th (11), while Wilder (6) and Council (2) rounded out the scoring.
Cove’s Morgan Reddington won the 400 meters (1:06.69), while Molly DelCurto won the pole vault, clearing (8-0).
Kendra Hackwith placed fifth in the 400 meters (1:09.65), while Natalie Gerdes was seventh (1:11.77) and Megan Spracklen took 14th (1:18.63).
DelCurto worked with teammates Hackwith, Reddington and Kellie Nostrant to place second in the 4×400 meter relay (4:53.69) – only two seconds behind the winning team from Vale.
DelCurto also worked with Hackwith, Josey Koehn and Nostrant to take fifth in the 4×100 meter relay (55.75) – the last of five teams to finish in less than a second.
Idaho City’s quartet won the race in 55.06, followed by Horseshoe Bend (55.30 seconds), Arian (55.31) and Vale (55.34).
Gerdes also placed 18th in the shot put (21-04) and 12th in the discus (63-00).
Alyssa Hamilton had a 10th place finish in the javelin (73-08).
In the 200 meters, the Lady Leopards had Koehn (seventh, 30.53), Nostrant (ninth, 31.30), Jessica Miller (19th, 34.06) and Spracklen (20th, 34.18).
