Juanita Ramey
La Grande, Wallowa Lake
1915-2012
Juanita Marie Stockhoff Ramey, 97, of La Grande and Wallowa Lake, died at her Wallowa Lake home on Aug. 21.
Ramey was born on May 23, 1915, near Blue Mound, Kan., to Henry George and Lula “Cordelia” (Nickelson) Stockoff. She attended school in Kansas and Oregon. She graduated from Corvallis High School and the Oregon Normal School (Western State University) in
Monmouth.
She married C.W. “Pete” Ramey on July 9, 1934 and they spent four years in Sweet Home where Pete managed a grocery store, after which they returned to the family dairy farm in Monmouth. In 1940 the Government built Camp Adair in the area and the family was forced to relocate to a farm near McMinnville. In 1942, the family purchased the Starkey Ranch in Eastern Oregon where they lived for two years before moving onto the current family farm in
La Grande where they continued to live.
Ramey lived a happy and busy farm life, taught school at Alicel for seven years and later opened an antique shop. She belonged to many organizations including the Alpha Epsilon sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, antiquing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judi Beatrice Harsin and husband, Ron, and Sharon Anne Bolen; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Maxine Stockhoff; many cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family in Kansas and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, of 62 years; a sister, Beatrice Ward; a brother, Gene Stockhoff; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in La Grande. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center.

Don D. Diggins
Wallowa
Don D. Diggins, 83, of Wallowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will take place Sept. 8 at Bramlet Cemetery in Wallowa.
A full obituary will appear next week. Bollman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
