Edna Earle Flanery, 95, of La Grande died Sept. 18 at a local care facility. A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24 at the Summerville Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center. A complete obituary will be published later.

Kari L. de Lint

Cove

1962-2012

Kari Lynn de Lint, 50, of Cove died Sept. 13 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, following an eight-year struggle with cancer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Lighthouse Church in La Grande. Burial will follow at the Summerville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Kari was born July 26, 1962, in La Grande. She lived most of her life in Eastern Oregon and attended schools in Ontario, Nyssa, Baker City and La Grande, including Eastern Oregon University and the La Grande School of Beauty.

In 1989 Kari married Steve Brown and they had a son, Evann Scott. In 2003 she married Marc de Lint and they had a son, Eiann Jacob. Marc and Kari farmed and built a home on a beautiful site in the Grande Ronde Valley. She loved the farm, and it provided a perfect place for her to acquire and nurture the many pets she so loved.

Kari worked at the Grande Ronde Fitness Center, a law office and finally the Cutting Corner Hair Studio. She loved going to yard sales and many outdoor activities including gardening and looking for mushrooms. She attended all her children’s school and sporting events and was an active volunteer at their schools. Kari attended the Imbler Christian Church. She loved her church family and the Bible studies.

Survivors include her husband, Marc; sons, Evann Scott Brown, Eiann Jacob de Lint and Shaun Patrick Roland and wife, Lucy, of Portland; mother and stepfather, Marilyn and Miles Thompson of Elgin; stepmother, Carolyn Helman; siblings, Kristy Hagey and husband, Shane, of Medford, and Darin Helman of Baker City; stepsiblings, Mick Thompson, Mike Presley, Debbie Graham and husband, Don, Julie Henderson and husband, Andy, and Donald Presley and wife, Jaci; mother-in-law, Cresta de Lint; grandparents-in-law, Creston and Dovey Shaw; brother-in-law, Mauri de Lint and wife, Anita; sister-in-law, Renee de Lint Miles and husband, Dave; three aunts and three uncles; 17 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins; and one grandson.

James R. Goucher

Union

1926-2012

James Riley Goucher, 85, of Union died Sept. 15 at a care facility in La Grande. A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24 at the Union United Methodist Church. A viewing for family and friends will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 at Loveland Funeral Chapel in La Grande. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. the following Tuesday at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston, Wash.

Known as Jim, he was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Spalding, Idaho, to Vilas and Florence (Bolen) Goucher. He grew up in Winchester, Idaho, where he was educated. He spent six years in Clarkston, Wash., 27 years in Walla Walla, Wash., and five years in Pilot Rock before moving to Union, where he lived for the past 28 years.

Jim married Ermal Maynard in 1946 in Clarkston, and they became the parents of three children, Jimmy, Deanna and Doug. Jim spent two years in the United States Navy, serving his country in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II. He was on the USS Charles R. Greer when he received a commendation medal from President Harry S. Truman.

After the war, Jim went to work for Potlach in Lewiston, Idaho, as a welder. He was also employed as sawmill manager at Louisiana Pacific and Hoff Lumber Company in Union before his retirement. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking care of his roses. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the NRA. Jim would say that his greatest joys in life were his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Goucher in 1965; parents, Vilas and Florence Goucher; two brothers, Lowell and Bill Goucher; and a sister, Darlene Hayes.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ermal Goucher of Union; children and their spouses, Deanna Watson of La Grande and Doug and Pam Goucher of College Place, Wash.; brothers and their spouses, Kenneth “Tim” and Connie Goucher of Harrison, Idaho, and Charles “Chuck” and Stacy Goucher of Clarkston; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; two aunts and numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Gracie.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth St., La Grande.

Cherie L. Jimmy

Formerly of La Grande

1954-2012

Cherie Lynn Lissman Jimmy, 58, died Sept. 14 at the OHSU hospital in Portland with her family around her. There will be a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at the Church of the Nazarene, 1250 Hughes Lane, in Baker City.

Cherie was born Aug. 24, 1954, in Nyssa to James and Betty Lissman. She was the oldest of five children. At the age of six she moved with her family to Baker City, where she was raised. She graduated from Baker High School in 1972.

After attending Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, she married Gerald Griffith, and they had two sons: Justin Wayne and Eric Samuel. She raised her boys in La Grande with her second husband, the love of her life, Billy W. Jimmy.

Cherie was active in her boys’ extracurricular activities and rarely missed a sport or music event. She was also close to her extended family and attended many of her nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events and activities. She could often be found crocheting baby blankets and pet sweaters for those she loved. Many of her sons’ friends considered her their second mom.

Cherie also was loved by many students at EOU and PSU, where she worked in the admitting, education, nursing and agricultural departments. She guided and encouraged those students as if they were her own and surely will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Jimmy of La Grande; sons and daughter-in-law, Eric Griffith and Justin and Doyle Griffith of San Diego; parents, Jim and Betty Lissman of Baker City; siblings and their spouses, Charles and Sandra Lissman of Boring, Barbara and Dennis Baller of Willamina, Lorin and Sue Lissman of Wasco and Sam and Mike Sullivan of Baker City; 13 nieces and nephews; and one granddaughter.

Earl R. Purcell

Joseph

1926-2012

Earl Roy Purcell, 86, of Joseph died Sept. 13 at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterpise, after a long battle with cancer. At his request there won’t be a service.

Earl was born Feb. 8, 1926, to Myrtle Pearl (Davis) and Edgar Hardy Purcell in Fort Bragg, Calif. He married Evelyn Adele Grist April 21, 1944, and they were together until her death from leukemia in 2005.

Earl and Adele had two children: a son, Michael Roy, who died at the age of 2 1/2; and a daughter, Kathleen Sue. Both children were born in Healdsburg, Calif.

Earl retired after 35 years fro PGandE in California, and he and Adele moved to Joseph in 1983.

He was a longtime member of the Joseph Lion’s Club and an avid hunter. He loved his horses and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time outdoors.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Sue (Purcell) Carroll; partner, Jeanie Larson; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
