1958-2012

Richard Ray Aldrich, 54, formerly of Baker City, died Oct. 3 near White Salmon, Wash. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at the First Baptist Church in Hood River. A graveside service will take place Oct. 12 at Rock Creek Cemetery in Haines. Arrangements are under the direction of Gardner Funeral Home.

Richard was born Jan. 11, 1958, in Baker City to Lynn Chadwick and Robert Ray Aldrich. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy for three years.

On Aug. 31, 1994, he married Tonya Murchland in Winnemucca, Nev. Richard worked as a dredger man and superintendant. He loved to hunt, fish and coach his kids sports teams.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Toni Aldrich; grandfather, George Chadwick; and father, Robert Aldrich.

Survivors include his wife, Tonya Aldrich; children, Casey Aldrich, M’Randa Aldrich, Ryan Aldrich and McKenna Aldrich; grandmother, Leorra Chadwick; brothers, Nathen Aldrich, Robert Aldrich Jr. and Thomas Kinsella; sisters, Teri Aldrich and Kathy Morrison; and three nieces and nephews.

Richard D. Hoskin

Island City

1933-2012

Richard Duane “Dick” Hoskin, 78, of Island City, died Oct. 5 at his home. A graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Island City Cemetery.

A memorial service will follow at 11 at the La Grande First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation and Life Celebration Center.

Known as Dick, he was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Myrtle, Idaho, to Chester Duane and Blossom Lenore (Waterer) Hoskin. He was raised and educated in the Lewiston, Idaho, area before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the LST 898, the LST 715 and the U.S.S. Bremerton. On July 3, 1953, he married Joan Marie Baldwin in Seattle.

After Dick’s honorable discharge from the navy in 1954 the couple settled in La Grande and he began working at Mt. Emily Lumber Company. In 1994 he retired from Boise Cascade, where he worked on the planer.

Dick was baptized at the First Christian Church in La Grande and also attended the La Grande Baptist Church.

He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars and was a cofounder of the Rusty Wheels Car Club. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and in his younger days he and Joan enjoyed square dancing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a

sister, Barbara “Carol” Anderson.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joan, of Island City; children and their spouses, Catherine Lynn and John Busey of Wilsonville, Rick Duane and Connie Hoskin of Summerville and John Cory Hoskin of Boise; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Linda Eoff, and her husband, Rusty, of Wallowa.
