BAKER CITY – Baker Garage, a car dealership in Baker City, is celebrating its centennial in business this year.

Although Baker Garage’s car lines have changed over the decades, one part has not: Buick.

The business started as a Buick dealer in 1913 and continues to sell the make, which is a division of General Motors.

As part of its 100th birthday, Baker Garage is inviting the owners of collectible Buicks to display their cars in front of the dealership, on Washington Avenue just east of Resort

Street, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Owners Randy and Glen Daugherty are expecting more than 20 vintage Buicks for the event. Glen, by the way, is celebrating his 59th year at Baker Garage, during which he has sold 61 consecutive model years of Buicks.

Among the Buicks slated to attend Saturday’s event:

andbull; A 1913 Model 31 Touring, owned by Mark and Rinda Shaw of Vancouver, Wash. This car represents one of the Buick models Baker Garage sold when it opened for business. The Shaws’ Model 31 is in excellent running condition.

andbull; A 1949 Roadmaster Riviera owned by Dennis and Marcia Kent of the Seattle area. They plan to drive their car to Baker City.

The 1949 Riviera was the U.S. auto industry’s first production two-door hardtop.

andbull; A 1965 Riviera Gran Sport, owned by Yvonne Heimark of Pendleton.

andbull; A 1959 Electra owned by Brian Laurance and his wife, LynnD, of Puyallup, Wash.

The Laurances’ Buick has Baker City ties. The car, which has not been restored, was delivered new by Baker Garage to Gerson Neuberger of the Neuberger and Heilner store in Baker City.

Neuberger died in 1960 and his relatives preserved the car until the late 1990s, when the Laurances bought the Buick during a visit to Baker City.

andbull; A 1973 Riviera owned by Randy Daugherty. This model is known for its “boattail” body style.
