Yost Ranch wins Countdown to CJD Ranch Rodeo

JOSEPH – Make it a double for the Yost Ranch.

For the second straight year, the Yost Ranch won the Countdown to Chief Joseph Days Ranch Rodeo at Harley Tucker Memorial Arena Saturday in Joseph.

The team of Jim Hite, Marianne Yost and Shawn Morehead combined for an average of 115 points through four events to take the Ranch Rodeo title.

The Quail Run Ranch, comprised of Barrie Qualle, Brady Black and Rod Childers, finished second with a 90-point average, while the Yost Quarter Horses team – made up of Odo Grandi, Justin Nedrow and Dave Yost – finished third with 60 points.

The night started out with the Yost Quarter Horses team winning the Team Branding event.

The team of Kurt McCormack, Janie McCormack and Lowell Lewis – the Wentz Ranch – followed that up with a win in the Team Penning before the Yost Ranch won the Team Roping event.

In the final team competition of the evening, the Fence Creek Ranch, made up of Cory Miller, Dena Miller and Jill McClaren, won the

Ribbon Roping.

But the Yost Ranch finished second to pull ahead in the average scoring to secure the team win.

Five cowboys entered to compete in the saddle bronc competition. Ty Holloway’s score of 71 points was good enough to win the event.

Lucas Stagley posted a score of 68 points, while Dustin Denton rode for 63 points. Quin Stephens put up a score of 60 points, while Chris Patrick was unable to post a score after receiving a re-ride option after his first ride.

This was the sixth year that the Ranch Rodeo was held as a preliminary event to Chief Joseph Days Rodeo.

The Chief Joseph Days Rodeo kicks off July 24 and runs through July 27.

It is the fourth and final leg of the Harley Tucker Rodeo Series, comprising of the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show, the St. Paul Rodeo and the Elgin Stampede.
