The man known as Danny Wu was arrested Wednesday night after he was seen hiding in the kitchen of the Pendleton Convention Center, according to police.

At about 5:45 p.m. Wednday, Pendleton dispatch received a 911 call reporting that the man known as Danny Wu was seen in the convention center. Less than two minutes later, officers were at the scene.

The Pendleton Police Department, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded and swept the building for civilians before backing out, bolstering the number of law enforcement personnel and and formulating a plan, according to police.

Just after 8 p.m., the sheriff’s office K-9 unit was preparing to enter the building with officers when an OSP trooper spotted a leg hanging from a second floor ceiling. Officers and the K-9 unit descended on the location and found the man known as Wu hiding in the ceiling. He was taken into custody without incident at 8:17 p.m.

The man was later identified as 23-year-old Lukah Probzeb Chang. Police believe he had been hiding in the Pendleton Convention Center for at least a week.

Chang was charged with one count of attempted murder for the attack on 53-year-old Karen Lange on Aug. 9 and one count of murder in the stabbing death of 19-year-old AmyJane Brandhagen on Aug. 14, 2012.
