Celebration of life services for Lorence “Doc” Savage will be held at the Lighthouse Church in Island City at

Aladine Marie Williams, 56, Elgin, died Sept. 26 at her residence. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory will be in charge of her care and arrangements.

Patrick Louis ‘O’Ring’ Faro

La Grande

1931-2013

Patrick Louis “O’Ring” Faro, 82, of La Grande, died at a local care facility on Sept. 17. A celebration of life service will be at the Union County Senior Center at 10 a.m. Saturday. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Patrick was born on Jan. 23, 1931, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Louis and Frances Agnes (Maher) Faro. He lived in Pendleton and the Echo area and in La Grande. He attended St. Joseph Academy in Pendleton and Echo Public School.

In 1952, Pat married Shirley Reedle. In 1959, he married Aileen Tucker. She died in 1996. In 2003, he married Margaret Gowdy Giest. She died on Jan. 1, 2012.

Pat was employed with Pendleton Ranches, Pilot Rock Lumber, Helix Milling Co. and Prowler Trailer Co. He worked for 30 years with Gunnel Logging Brothers, where he retired. Pat was a self-educated heavy equipment mechanic.

Pat loved his motor homes and traveling. He enjoyed puzzles, carpentry and working on his vehicles. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved kids and pets.

Pat was a member of the AARP and the Union County Historical Society. He supported Oregon Public Broadcasting and was an active member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his children, Jeannie Rae DeLong (John) of Missouri and Patricia Knight (John) of Pendleton; three stepchildren, William Perkins, Trudy Clark and Patricia Johnson, all of Pendleton; his siblings, Laurena Campell of California, Charles Faro (Elsie) of Echo, Alice Walters (Darrell) of Walla Walla, Wash., Mary Jones (Joe) of Pendleton, Margie Bonifer of Pendleton, Blanche Severns (Jay) of Stanfield and Rita Drake (Fenton) of Spokane, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews as well as O-Ring the family dog and Oreo the family cat.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents, Louis and Frances; three siblings, sisters Carol Lonai and Teresa Manitone and brother Tony Faro.

John Isaac Chandler

La Grande

1918-2013

John Isaac Chandler, 95, of La Grande, died at Grande Ronde Retirement Center on Sept. 23. Graveside services for John will be at the Island City Cemetery at 1 p.m. Friday. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

John, affectionately known as “Uncle Johnny,” was born Feb. 21, 1918, in La Grande to Zach and Margaret Ann (Shafer) Chandler. He grew up in La Grande and attended Fruitdale school. On Sept. 20, 1939, he married Margaret Jean McClure. They were married 63 years Margaret died in 2003.

John spent most of his working life as a log truck driver. He started with Mount Emily Lumber Co. and ended his career with Claude Roden Logging. He also worked as a freight truck driver. During World War II, he was employed with Boeing.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting and storytelling.

Surviving are his two children and their spouses, Jan and Brian Kenny of Vancouver, Wash., and Mike and Chris Chandler of Kelso, Wash.; five grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents, Zach and Margaret; three brothers and one sister.

Jerry Wiggins

La Grande

1949-2013

Jerry Wiggins, 64, died at his home on Sept. 20 inLa Grande. A private family service will be held later.

Jerry Joe was born on Feb. 9, 1949, to Robert and Dorothy (Mason) Wiggins in Spokane, Wash. Jerry grew up in the Seattle area and lived there until 1996, when he moved to Pinehurst, Idaho. It was here that the entire Shoshone Valley came to know and love him, family members said. In July 2012, Jerry and his wife moved to La Grande.

Jerry worked as a sous-chef at the Space Needle in Seattle along with several other restaurants.

He went on to become an accomplished and highly skilled carpenter under the guidance of his father and ended his career as a cabinet maker at Reed Enterprises in Seattle.

In his downtime, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. Jerry was quite the joker, as anyone in his life could attest. Jerry survived stage 4 cancer once and was the poster child for the Survivor’s Wall at the Cancer Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

After his remarkable recovery, Jerry lived cancer-free for several years.

Earlier this year, though, he was informed that the cancer had returned. Just a week before his death, his doctors told him that there was nothing more to be done. He spent his last Sunday with his sister, Debbie, and her husband, Scott Friswold, going for a motorcycle ride. He died the next Friday.

Above all else, Jerry loved his family and spending time with the people closest to him. Having never had children, his love for his nieces and nephews knew no bounds. He was surrounded by the love of his family at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, who died in 1995.

Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Lea; his father, Robert Wiggins of Yuma, Ariz.; sisters, Debbie of Cove, and Vickie of Cataldo, Idaho; brother, Mike Wiggins of Seattle; five nieces; three nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

The joy and love he brought to the lives he touched will be deeply missed, the family said.
