1946-2013

Union resident John Cartwright Estes, 67, died with his wife by his side, at his home on Oct. 26.

John was born on Aug. 15, 1946, to Oscar G. and Dorothy Ann (Young) Estes in San Antonio, Texas. His father’s military career moved the family to many locations worldwide during John’s childhood. When he wasn’t traveling, he was raised in Kentucky and Arkansas, where his grandparents lived.

At age 17, John enlisted in the Navy, where he served for four years. Later, he joined the Army Calvary. He then joined the Air Force National Guard and remained there until he retired honorably, as an Air Force Tech Sergeant, 142nd Civil Engineering Squadron, with 27 years total military service.

John received many humanitarian medals and ribbons and completed nine tours overseas.

John’s early married life was spent in San Diego with his first wife, Carla. Then in 1973, he married his second wife, Julie, and moved his family to the Wildwood area of Mt. Hood. In 2006, John married the love of his life, Michelle Barnette, and moved to Union, where he finally settled down.

John was an artistic and passionate person. He had many talents and loves. John was extremely talented with woodworking and anything to do with arts and crafts. He worked with wood throughout his life and became a skilled carpenter. He loved to build models, especially model airplanes and model ships. He was well known for his amazing model ships.

John loved the outdoors, and he and his wife, Michelle, spent many days in the mountains exploring. John was an avid fly fisherman and loved to hunt with a muzzleloader.

He is survived by his wife of eight years this May, Michelle; his four sons, Michael C. Estes, Jared G. Estes, Tylor S. Verbout and Daylen K. Verbout; his daughter, Jordan Moore; three granddaughters and a grandson due in the spring.

Tracey Lynn

Enterprise

1968-2013

Tracey Lynn, 45, died at home in Enterprise Nov. 12.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at 404 E. Logan St., Enterprise.

Tracey was born Oct. 7, 1968, in Lynnwood, Calif., the daughter of Pat Lynn and Peggy Shingleton. Tracey grew up in Garden Grove and Sacramento, Calif., and moved to Wallowa County in 1986.

Survivors include longtime partner Bret Witty of Enterprise; children, Jacob Lynn of Tigard and Marcus Lynn of Salem; parents, Pat Lynn of Enterprise, Lori Greenway of Joseph and Peggy Batemen of Garden Grove; siblings, Mandy Nelson (spouse Joe) of Enterprise, Sean Lynn of Enterprise, Michael Lynn of Eugene and Patrick Lynn of Beaverton; several nieces and nephews and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Jerry Wayne Miller

Enterprise

1944-2013

Jerry Wayne Miller, 69, died Nov. 9 at Wallowa Valley Senior Living in Enterprise.

Jerry was born April 3, 1944, in Roanoke, Va., the son of Howard Miller and Mary Bell Campbell.

Jerry was married to Cheryl, who died, and then Bernadine Scott.

He worked as a meat cutter by trade and was known for building playhouses, bird feeders, barns and dollhouses and making Christmases happy for children.

He enjoyed gold mining, building crafts, hunting, fishing and going for rides in the woods, belonged to a gold mining club and had many animal mounts.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadine Miller of Wallowa; children, Lisa Croom (spouse Ron) of Woodstock, Va.; his siblings, Ronald Miller (spouse Katherine), Steven Miller (spouse Jeanne), and Christal, all of Virginia; and three grandchildren.

Dying earlier were his parents; sister, Susan Ovenchain, and son, Jay Miller.
