Sermon based on life, teachings of Jesus
Pastor Laura Hudson will lead the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church.
The sermon, “Jesus of Nazareth,” will be based on Hebrews 2:10-18 and Matthew 2:13-23. Fellowship will follow the service.
Wednesday Community Church Fellowship Night dinner begins again next week, at 6 p.m. in the Presbyterian Friendship Center.
Pastor speaks on Thatcher, Mandela
Communion will be celebrated at the La Grande United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Sunday. Pastor Steve Wolff will celebrate Epiphany Sunday with a message titled “Thatcher, Mandela and Schaefer.”
All are invited to attend service, partake in communion and join after for coffee and fellowship.
Grace Lutheran celebrates new year
COVE – Grace Community Lutheran Church celebrates the first Sunday of the new year with a traditional service of songs and God’s word starting at 10 a.m.
Bible study for all ages begins at 9 a.m. Pastor Carl Seelhoff’s sermon title this week is, “How Long will You Falter” from First Kings. Men’s Bible study and breakfast resumes at 7:30 a.m. every Thursday. All activities are held at the Cove Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Church sings out the Christmas Season
Zion Lutheran Church is celebrating the Epiphany of Our Lord Sunday with Epiphany Lessons and Carols.
During worship, the church will sing out the Christmas Season as it welcomes in the Epiphany Season, when Jesus is made known to all people. The Holy Communion service with Pastor Colleen Nelson will be held at 9:30 a.m. The worship service is followed by fellowship at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday classes at 11 a.m. Zion Lutheran is an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation.
Congregation listens for ‘Heart of Gold’
ENTERPRISE – The congregation will listen for the “Heart of God” in Bible study and worship at Enterprise Community Congregational Church Sunday. Bible study begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 11 a.m.
Gift of Grace series begins Sunday
Doug Edmonds’ lesson Sunday at the Church of Christ will be the start of a new series, “The Gift of Grace: The Parable of the River.” Communion is taken every Sunday. Sunday morning classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., and worship service follows at 10:30 a.m.
A children’s church for the little ones takes place during the sermon. Wednesday small groups are at 7 p.m. at various home locations. For more information, call Edmonds at 541-805-5070.
Message is titled ‘Turn, turn, turn’
UNION – Communion will be served during the
11 a.m. Sunday service at the United Methodist Church in Union. Pastor Sue Peeples’ message is titled “Turn, Turn, Turn.”
Refreshments and fellowship plus an administration council meeting will follow.
This week, the church is hosting Fresh Food Alliance from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Senior Lunch at noon Tuesday, and a
prayer and discussion meeting from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
‘In the beginning
was the Word’
The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church will use the Gospel of John, focusing on the first verse, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” It’s about Christ being with people to start the year and his desire to be involved in all people’s actions, words and thoughts through the year.
Sunday school begins at 8:45 a.m. and the Divine Service at 10 a.m., with a potluck to follow.
Faith Lutheran will also celebrate the Epiphany or manifestation of Jesus Christ to all people with a service at 7 p.m. Monday. Epiphany follows the 12 days of
Christmas.
Pastor’s message is ‘Homeward Bound’
Pastor Don Dunn will begin the new year with a message of “Homeward Bound” at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 901 Penn Ave., at 10 a.m. Sunday. He will reference Jeremiah 31:7-14, Psalm 147:12-20 and John 1:10-18. The after school kids program will begin again on Wednesday following a Christmas break.
