Baptism of Our Lord celebrated Sunday

The Baptism of Our Lord will be celebrated Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church. The sermon, “Poured Out,” will be based on Isaiah 42:1-9 and Matthew 3:13-17. Fellowship follows the service. Wednesday Night Community Dinner continues next week with dinner at 6 p.m.

Pastor explains baptism’s role

COVE – Grace Community Lutheran Church worship service begins at 10 a.m. Sunday. This week, Pastor Carl Seelhoff will explain the importance of baptism. Sunday school for all ages starts at 9 a.m. The annual meeting and potluck takes place Sunday during fellowship. Men’s Bible study and breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. every Thursday. All activities occur at the Cove Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Annual meeting follows service

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will observe the first Sunday after the Epiphany with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach. The annual meeting immediately follows the service; parishioners are strongly encouraged to attend. Morning prayer is offered at 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the chapel. A midweek Eucharist is offered at

12:15 p.m. Wednesdays, also in the chapel.

St. Ann’s Guild will meet at 2 p.m. Friday in the parish hall. The book club will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall.

St. Peter’s will host the Thursday K House dinner on Jan. 16. Helping hands are needed. For more information, call Val Royes or the church office.

Pastor celebrates baptism of the Lord

Pastor Steve Wolff will celebrate the baptism of the Lord with a sermon titled “I Don’t Think that Word Means what You Think it Means: Peter and Repentance” at the United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Sunday. Following the service, coffee will be provided in the Fellowship Hall.

All are invited to attend the service and join after for coffee and fellowship.

‘Like a Dove’ is theme for Sunday service

ENTERPRISE – “Like a Dove” is the theme at the Big Brown Church in Enterprise Sunday. Bible study begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship at

11 a.m.

Get victory over trying to get victory

Saturday morning, Pastor Mike Armayor’s message is titled, “Victory Over Trying to Get Victory.” The pastor will focus on how to allow Jesus to live in and through our life and overcome evil in the world. The Cove Seventh-day Adventist church meets at 9:30 a.m., and the La Grande SDA church meets at 11 a.m.

Pastor focuses

on leadership vision

“Baptism – A New Vision of Leadership” will be the message from Pastor Don Dunn at the 10 a.m. Sunday service at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 901 Penn Ave. He will refer to Psalm 29, Isaiah 92:1-9 and Matthew 3:13-17.

The church will take a special offering Sunday for the Church World Service Blankets+ program, providing help and a warm blanket to those in need during times of disaster.

Spirit of God descends like dove

The sermon for the first Sunday after Epiphany at Faith Lutheran Church will use Matthew Chapter 3, Verses 13-17. These verses tell about the baptism of Jesus in which “heaven was opened … and the Spirit of God descended like a dove.” This epiphany (revealing) of God and his grace gives comfort to Christians.
