Bud Ashcraft, owner of Bud Jackson's in La Grande, points out damage done in an October 2014 break-in. Numerous businesses in La Grande and Island city were targets during a rash of burglaries.

Police have pursued all leads, but there’s been no break in the case of 14 area burglaries.

About $7,500 in property damage was done in the two burglary sprees in October in a case that has left law enforcement and business owners on edge.

La Grande PoliceDepartment Lt. Derick Reddington said cases like this are trying in and of themselves and only magnify resources issues faced by the department.

“These kinds of cases] are very frustrating because law enforcement as a rule has very high expectations for solving these types of crimes,” he said. “We also know the general public has expectations of us solving crimes.”
