HIGHLIGHTS: Children invited to Harvest Festival

Grace Bible Church is hosting a Reformation Day Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 1114 Y Ave., La Grande. Accompanied children are invited to come enjoy the festivities.There will be games, face painting, prizes, a cake walk and a soup and bread supper.
Church reminds: adjust your clocks
COVE – The service at the Cove Methodist Church will begin at 9 a.m., with Vickie Hill-Brown, a lay servant of the church, leading the worship. Communion will be offered the following Sunday, Nov. 8. Following worship there is a coffee fellowship downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.
This Sunday will be the first day of the adjusted time, for in the fall we fall back in time to an hour earlier. Remember to adjust your clocks.
The Cove Food Pantry is on the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon. Fresh food alliance is on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m..
Did God repent? is focus of sermon
“God Repented?” is the message Pastor Ray Smith will share at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in La Grande. The message, taken from Jonah 3:1-10, will explore our repentance.
The Christian Women’s Fellowship is preparing for the annual Fall Bazaar, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 7, which will include a bake sale.
All Saints’ Day celebrated Sunday
All Saints’ Day will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. The sermon, “Saintly Job Description,” will be based on Revelations 21:1-7 and Mark 12:28-34. Fellowship will follow the service.
All are welcome to join the Wednesday Night Community Fellowship Dinner held weekly at 6 p.m.
Agape meets at community center
ELGIN – The Agape Christian Fellowship meets from 10:45 a.m. to noon Sundays at the Elgin Community Center. For more information, call 541-910-5193.
Episcopal Presiding Bishop to be installed
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe All Saints’ Day with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach. The congregation will also rejoice with the saints on earth as the Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry is installed as Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. His installation will take place in the Washington National Cathedral Sunday at noon (EST).
Centering Prayer is offered Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. Next week the usual midweek Eucharist and Thursday Morning Prayer will not be held.
Blessed are those who mourn
Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will recognize All Saints’ Day this Sunday, a day designated to remember the dearly departed who passed with faith in Jesus Christ. The sermon will use the Beatitudes, found in Matthew 5:1-12, focusing especially on “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (verse 4).
Following the Divine Service all are welcome at the monthly First Sunday Potluck.
Church seeks vendors for upcoming bazaar
UNION – Pastor Sue Peeples will bring the message during the 11 a.m. service at the Methodist Church in Union. The message title will be “What Are We Waiting For?” Communion will be celebrated, and refreshments will be offered following the service.
Weekly programs for community participation include Tuesday’s senior lunch at noon. This week a spaghetti dinner will be served. Come for Linda’s good cooking, fun and fellowship. Anyone who needs assistance in getting there may call 541-562-5848 a day in advance.
The Wednesday Prayer Meeting is weekly from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Prayer requests may be called in to 541-562-5848 if you are unable to attend. The congregants also pray daily for those needing God’s healing as well as for those on the Grande Ronde Prayer Line (541-786-PRAY).

Bishop joins Zion ‘Festival Worship’
Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will celebrate All Saints Day with a Festival Worship at 9:30 am with Pastor Colleen Nelson. As part of the 125th anniversary celebration, the guest speaker will be the Bishop of the Oregon Synod of the ELCA, Dave Brauer-Rieke. A time of fellowship and a reception will follow the service, with an international luncheon at 11 a.m.
Pastor asks, ‘Who Is the Door?’ Sunday
COVE – Grace Community Lutheran Church will celebrate All Saints’ Sunday with a worship service beginning at 10 a.m., during which the congregation will remember family and church members who have passed away. Pastor Carl Seelhoff’s sermon – “Who Is the Door?” – will be based on John 10. Adult Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., and fellowship follows the service.
The men’s interdenominational breakfast and Bible study continues its study of Proverbs this Thursday at 7:30 a.m. All men are invited to attend. Activities are held at the Cove Adventist Church.
