HIGHLIGHTS: St. Peter’s book club meets Sunday night

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe the 24th Sunday after Pentecost with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach.

The book club will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall. Those attending are asked to bring a snack to share.

During the week, two prayer services are offered at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel: non-denominational Centering Prayer on Tuesdays and Morning Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer on Thursdays. A midweek Eucharist is offered at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays, also in the chapel.

Sermon is on God’s rules of engagement

Doug Edmonds at the La Grande Church of Christ will speak this Sunday on “God with Us: Rules of Engagement,” the story of Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness. Communion is taken every Sunday. Sunday morning classes begin at 9:30 a.m., and the worship service follows at 10:30 a.m. A “children’s church” during the sermon is offered for kids age 2 through kindergarten.

Wednesday small groups meet at 7 p.m. at various home locations.

Revival speaker outlines Jesus’ return

The La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church’s “All About Jesus” revival concludes Saturday. Pastor Lee Venden will explore the Bible’s description of Jesus’ second return and focus on how to survive our trouble-filled world and prepare for His coming. There will be three presentations beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m.

Next Saturday morning at 9:30, Pastor Mike will resume his multimedia “Savior of the World” series. These lessons capture the heart of God, His love and grace, and the ministry of reconciliation between humanity and Himself. Participants will receive a lesson guide for each subject in the series.

Church hosts Veterans Day dinner

COVE – The Rev. Ernest Smith will lead the 9 a.m. worship at the Cove United Methodist Church. He will serve Holy Communion as part of the service and will speak on”Stereotyping and Prejudice.” Coffee is served in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

The church hosts Fresh Food Alliance on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Food Pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of the month.

On Nov. 14, there will be a Veterans Day Dinner and Bake Sale in the Fellowship Hall.

Story of widow teaches us to trust

LA GRANDE, ENTERPRISE – The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church will be based on Mark 12:38-44 in which Jesus compliments a widow who gave all that she had to live on, showing complete trust in the Lord and His established ministry. This week inLa Grande, Sunday school and adult Bible study are at

8:45 a.m. with the Matins Service at 10 a.m. In Enterprise, a Divine Service begins at 2 p.m.

Pastor delivers stewardship message

Pastor Ray Smith will speak on “Learning to Give” at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in La Grande. This stewardship message will look at giving from 2 Corinthians 8:7-9.

The Christian Women’s Fellowship will hold its annual Harvest Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the items for sale, warm cinnamon rolls will be available at the coffee shop from9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and a turkey noodle lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Transportation offered to all church activities

COVE – Grace Community Lutheran Church celebrates God’s word with a worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl Seelhoff’s sermon, “Faith,” is taken from Mark 13:40. Sunday school for adults is available before the service at 9 a.m., and a time of fellowship follows the service.

The men’s breakfast and Bible study continues its study of Proverbs this Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Transportation is available to all church activities, which are held at the Cove Adventist Church.

Service looks at the anointing of King David

Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will meet for worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. The theme will be the anointing of King David. Fellowship follows the service.

Taco soup, pie served at Methodist bazaar

During the 10 a.m. worship service at the La Grande United Methodist Church, Pastor Wolff will further examine the Prophets as we explore our roots of worship. The congregation is reminded to bring donations to the local food bank.

On Saturday the church’s Fall Bazaar will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The bazaar will feature baked goods, hand-crafted items, woodwork, pet gifts and treats, plants, wreaths and Fair Trade Items from Ten Thousand Villages and UMCOR. Taco Soup and pie will also be available.

Church observes 24th Sunday after Pentecost

The 24th Sunday after Pentecost will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. The sermon, “Out of Her Poverty,” will be based on I Kings 17:8-16 and Mark 12:38-44. Fellowship follows the service.

The Wednesday Night Community Fellowship Dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the church.
