HIGHLIGHTS: Methodist Church serves free dinner

COVE – The Cove United Methodist Church invites the community to a Fifth Sunday Church Out of Church Dinner. Starting at
5 p.m., a spaghetti dinner will be served in the Fellowship Hall at no charge. To top it off, there will be a great homemade dessert.
The regular 9 a.m. service will not be held this week.
The church hosts the Fresh Food Alliance on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Food Pantry is on the third Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
A Bible study is held Wednesday mornings at11 a.m.
Cookie Gram tradition continues
The La Grande First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will worship through music this fifth Sunday of January.
The Children’s Choir will sing “God is Love” to complement the service’s focus on the nature of God.
The Cookie Gram project is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
Orders will be taken until 500 dozen cookies are ordered. Cost is $5 per dozen or $9 for a two-dozen plate, including your special message and hand delivery Feb. 12 and 13.
TV special airs Monday-Friday
Doug Edmonds at the La Grande Church of Christ this Sunday will present the lesson “God with Us: What God is Looking For.” Continuing the journey through the Bible, the teaching will look at the kingships of Saul and David. Communion is taken every Sunday.
Sunday morning classes for all ages begin at 9:30 a.m., and the worship service follows at 10:30. “Kingdom Kids” is available during the sermon for children age 2 through kindergarten.
At 7 p.m. Wednesdays the church offers a video series, “Islam, the Quran and Christianity.”
Pastor Edmonds encourages the community to watch “Getting to Know Your Bible,” DTV channel 377, at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Missionary Church has new address
La Grande’s First Landmark Missionary Church has moved. The congregation is now meeting at 1812 First St.
Prayer meetings held Thursday morning
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe the fourth Sunday after the Epiphany with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach.
Centering Prayer is
offered Tuesday mornings and Morning Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer is offered Thursday mornings; both services are at
8:30 a.m. A midweek Eucharist is offered Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. Weekday services are in the chapel.
Biblical worldview studies held Thursday
John 1:35-51 will be the expository (verse by verse) preaching focus of the 11 a.m. worship service presented by Pastor Phil Garwood at Grace Bible Church. It is the account of when Jesus calls the first disciples by inviting them to “follow me.” Bible study is at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday prior to the service.
All are welcome to participate in biblical worldview studies each Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Quilters, student group meet Tuesday
Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. A time of fellowship follows the service.
Tuesday morning the Quilters will meet at 9 a.m. at the church. That evening at 6:30 p.m. the StudentWorshipArtTeam will meet, also at the church.
Message focuses on trust Sunday
COVE – Grace Community Church celebrates the fourth Sunday of Epiphany with a worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl Seelhoff’s sermon, “Who Do You Trust,” will be taken from Luke 4. Adult Sunday school starts at 9 a.m.
A potluck and congregation meeting follows the service.

Brief service held for fifth Sunday
Anytime there is a month with five Sundays, the congregants of the La Grande United Methodist Church have a brief service at 10 a.m. then they go out and “do.” There are activities for all ages and capabilities. Lunch and fellowship follow.
Message examines ‘noble authority’
The worship service at Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will examine our desire for “noble authority” in time of distress, failure and uncertainty.
The sermon will expound upon Luke 4:3-44, which says that the crowds were impressed with Jesus’ teaching for it “possessed authority.”
The Bible teaches Jesus Christ has “all authority in heaven and on earth,” therefore it is fitting to receive His teachings.
Message is based on Jeremiah, Luke
The Fourth Sunday after Epiphany will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. The sermon, “No Excuse,” will be based on Jeremiah 1:4-10 and Luke 5:1-11. Fellowship will follow the service.
The Wednesday Community Fellowship Dinner begins at 6 p.m. All are welcome.
Speaker addresses ‘religious liberty’
Guest speaker, local businessman and church leader Dennis Clayville will speak on the importance and purpose of religious liberty in our world today during the service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in
La Grande. The service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.
