HIGHLIGHTS: Cain and Abel story is focus of service

This Saturday at theLa Grande Seventh-dayAdventist Church, Pastor Mike will team up with Braden Way, KTFY 88.1 FM Christian Radio station manager, to share the significance of the story of Cain and Abel, one of the most compelling and illustrative stories in the Bible contrasting faith with works of obedience to attain favor with God.
The 11 a.m. service will also include a children’s story and worship in song.
Parables teach God welcomes the lost
The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will be based on Luke 15, which relates the parables of the lost sheep, lost coin and lost son. The message will focus on the loving Father who welcomes home a wandering son and assures the older son, who had not wandered, that “all that is Mine is yours.” The monthly First Sunday potluck follows the service.
Wednesday’s Lenten Service will continue the “Places of the Passion” series. This week’s lesson will be on the Courtyard, a place of reflection for Peter.
Men’s Bible study and breakfast Thursdays
COVE – Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Lent with a worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl Seelhoff’s sermon title, “Law of Love,” is taken from Luke 15 where Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep. Adult Sunday school is offered at 9 a.m. Fellowship follows the service.
This Saturday, Union County Young Life will be collecting beverage cans and bottles in Cove and Union to help send kids to summer camp. Call Bob at 541-568-4230 for more information.
The men’s Bible study and breakfast continues to meet at 7:30 a.m. every Thursday.
All may share in Communion
The La Grande United Methodist Church will meet at 10 a.m. to celebrate God and partake of Communion. The church practices an inclusive Communion, and all are welcome to partake in the bread and fruit of the vine. Unfermented grape juice is used in the place of wine and gluten-free bread is provided. Child care is available. Coffee and fellowship will be offered after the service.
Study series ends Wednesday
Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. Sunday school for children is offered during the sermon. Fellowship and
coffee follow the service.
Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. the StudentWorshipArtTeam will meet at the church.
Wednesday at noon will be the final session of the “In God’s Name” study series. Participants will meet in the fellowship hall and may bring a lunch or a snack.
St. Ann’s Guild meets next Friday
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe the fourth Sunday of Lent with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach.
Centering Prayer is offered Tuesdays, and Morning Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer is offered Thursdays; both services begin at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. A midweek Eucharist is offered Wednesdays at
12:15 p.m., also in the chapel.
The Lenten soup supper and study series on the saints concludes Tuesday evening at 6 in the parish hall.
March 11 St. Ann’s Guild will hold their monthly meeting at 2 p.m. in the parish hall.
Lamb delivers message Sunday
COVE – The service at the Cove Methodist Church begins at 9 a.m. This fourth Sunday of Lent, guest speaker Mike Lamb from the
La Grande Methodist Church will deliver the message. Coffee and fellowship follow in the downstairs hall.
The church hosts the Food Pantry on the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon, and Fresh Food Alliance every Tuesday from
10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
A Bible study is offered Wednesday mornings at
11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Sermon teaches: ‘continue in what you have learned and firmly believed’
The fourth Sunday of Lent will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. The sermon, “Truth Living,” is based on Joshua 1:1-9 and 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5: “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed.” Fellowship follows the service.
The church offers a Wednesday Night Fellowship Community Dinner at 6 p.m.
Women’s group plans multiple sales
Pastor Ray Smith will raise the question “Where Are You, Jesus?” at the
10 a.m. worship service at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in
La Grande.
His message from John 12:20-33 will explore finding Jesus in the Bible, in “the least of these” and in those around us.
The Christian Women’s Fellowship will hold its
annual rummage sale March 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
In addition to rummage items and clothing, there will be a baked food and plant sale to benefit the Hope House home for troubled youth in Marsing, Idaho.
