HIGHLIGHTS: Are good intentions good enough?

Pastor Ray Smith will speak on “Lots of Good Intentions” at the 10 a.m. service at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in
La Grande. His message comes from Matthew 21:28-32, sharing that “good intentions are not always good enough.”
There will be a no-host lunch at the Smokehouse Restaurant at 11:45 a.m. All are welcome.
Grace Community recognizes Young Life
COVE – The worship service at Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl’s sermon, “Growing Seed,” will be taken from Mark 4.
During the service, Grace Community will recognize the Union County Young Life’s dedicated work in reaching out to kids in the valley. Sunday school begins at
9 a.m., and fellowship follows the service.
The men’s Bible study and breakfast meets Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Transportation is available for all activities.
‘Silver and Gold I Have None’
“Silver and Gold I Have None” will be the focus of the service at the La Grande United Methodist Church. The service begins at 10 a.m. and is followed by a fellowship coffee hour.
SWAT group meets Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. Sunday school for children is held during the sermon. Fellowship and fair trade coffee follows the service.
Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. the StudentWorshipArtTeam will meet at the church.
Series continues with stories from Daniel
Doug Edmonds at the La Grande Church of Christ will present the lesson “God with Us: Standing Strong with the Lord.” Continuing the journey through the Bible, the message will look at three stories from the Book of Daniel. Communion is taken every Sunday. Sunday morning classes for all ages begin at 9:30 a.m., and the worship service follows at 10:30 a.m. “Kingdom Kids” is offered during the sermon for kids age 2 through kindergarten.
On Wednesday nights, small groups meet at various homes.
Pastor Doug encourages all to try out the free online “World Bible School” and to watch “Getting to Know Your Bible” on DTV channel 377 at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Koinonia group meets Saturday
LA GRANDE, ENTERPRISE – The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church will be based on John 21:1-14. This is the record of the third appearance Jesus made to his disciples after the resurrection.
When the disciples first saw Jesus, they didn’t know it was him. Humankind often fails to recognize Jesus, his means of grace and his work through people. Faith’s Divine Service is at 10 a.m. in La Grande and 2 p.m. in Enterprise.
Koinonia, Faith Lutheran’s women’s group, will have its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday
The gathering will include a service project to work on, a business meeting and wonderful fellowship. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.
St. Peter’s office will be closed Thursday
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will observe the third Sunday of Easter with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach.
The book club will meet at 6 p.m. in the parish hall Sunday evening.
Centering Prayer is offered Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. A midweek Eucharist is offered Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m., also in the chapel. On Thursday, Morning Prayer will not be offered and the church office will be closed.
‘Revelation’ studied Wednesday nights
The third Sunday of Easter will be celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande. The sermon, “Revealing,” will be based on Revelation 1:1-8 and 5:11-14. Fellowship follows the service.
There will be an eight-week study of “Revelation” by N.T. Wright on Wednesdays at
5 p.m.
Messages shows value in each of us
The message at the 11 a.m. Saturday service at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church will be directed especially at those who have asked themselves, “Who am I” and “Why am I here?”
Guest speaker Dennis Clayville will lead the congregation to discover together just how valuable each of us are. Clayville is a local businessman who, with his wife, owns Nature’s Pantry; he is also a contractor/builder and a church leader.
The service will also include a children’s story and worship in song. The “Savior of the World” series of studies will resume April 16 at 9:30 a.m.
Upper room will be open early for prayer
Pastor Phil Garwood will be preaching from John 6 at the 11 a.m. worship service at Grace Bible Church in
La Grande.
This scripture contains the account of Jesus multiplying five loaves and two fish to feed more than 5,000 people, teaching his disciples that he was the messiah who was sent to the world. Bible study precedes the service at 9:30 a.m., or come early and pray at 9 a.m. in the upper room.
