Christian country singer performs

IMBLER — The Imbler Christian Church invites the community to a concert by Christian country recording artist Charlie Walker on Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service.

Forgiveness builds community

Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson, who will speak on 2 Corinthians 2:1-10 in a sermon titled “Forgiveness Builds Community.” Sunday school for children is held during the sermon. Fellowship and fair trade coffee follow the service.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the StudentWorshipArtTeam will meet at the church.

Sermon looks at humility Sunday

The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church this Sunday will be based on Luke 7. In this reading, religious people interceded for a Roman centurion who had been helpful to them, telling Jesus that he was worth. However, the centurion confessed to Jesus, “I am not worthy….” The Roman official had done wonderful work and was humble with his accomplishments. The service begins at 10 a.m. in La Grande.

Next Saturday, June 4, is Faith Lutheran’s annual yard sale. The sale, which will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, is a fundraiser for Christian education.

Message is, “Messing with a good thing”

The sermon at the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande will be “Messing with a Good Thing,” based on Psalm 96 and Galatians 1:1-12. The second Sunday after Pentecost is also known as Remembrance Sunday. All who come to worship are invited to remember a loved one by bringing a flower in their honor. A beautiful bouquet will be arranged from the flowers, and the names will be read during the service. Fellowship will follow the service.

Women’s Fellowship installs new officers

Vicky Brogoitti will give the message during the La Grande First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 10 a.m. service Sunday. The message will be drawn from Psalm 1.

The Christian Women’s Fellowship will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday for dinner and installation of the officers for the coming year.

Congregants assist in final K House dinner

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe the second Sunday after Pentecost with Holy Eucharist, Rite I, at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach.

On Thursday, St. Peter’s will assist the other Koinonia House churches in hosting the final dinner of the academic year, at which the graduating students will be honored.

Register early for camp, get a discount

COVE — Registration is now open for this summer’s sessions at Cove Christian Camp, 68405 Mill Creek Lane in Cove.

Campers should register by the grade they have just completed. This summer’s schedule is June 26-28 for grades 1-2; July 10-16 for grades 7-12; July 17-23 for grades 5-6; and July 24-28 for grades 3-4. Registration forms and complete information are available at www.covechristiancamp.org or at the La Grande First Christian Church. Early bird discounts are offered for those registering at least two weeks prior to the camp they are attending.

Message focuses on John the Baptist

Doug Edmonds will continue his “God with Us” series at the 10:30 a.m. service at the La Grande Church of Christ. This week’s talk is entitled “Making Straight the Way of the Lord,” following the ministry of John the Baptist. Communion is taken every Sunday.

Sunday morning classes for all ages are from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. “Kingdom Kids” is offered during the sermon for children age 2 through kindergarten.

Fellowship lunch follows service

COVE — Grace Community Lutheran Church will celebrate the second Sunday of Pentecost with a 10 a.m. worship service. Pastor Carl Seehoff’s message comes from John 10 and is titled “Freedom in Christ.”

Adult Sunday school is held before the service at 9 a.m. Fellowship follows the service with the council furnishing a lunch. Transportation is available for all church activities.

Churches to give kids a free week of fun

Four La Grande churches are working together to bring a week-long of Christian day camp to neighborhood children. The ecumenical day camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily June 13-17 at Zion Lutheran Church, 902 Fourth St. Co-sponsors are La Grande’s First Christian, United Methodist and First Presbyterian churches.

The day camp is free to the first 50 children who register and is offered to kids going into kindergarten through 6th grade. The theme is “Rooted: Imagine What Will Grow!” Activities will be led by professionally trained young adults from Camp Lutherhaven in Idaho and will include Bible encounters, camp songs, games, crafts and outdoor recreation. Lunch and snacks are provided daily.

The message Saturday morning at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church will be given by lifelong Seventh-day Adventist educator-administrator Allan Sather. According to Pastor Mike, it will be “an important and relevant presentation you will appreciate. The service begins at 10:50 a.m.
