La Grande law firm adds new junior partner to the roster

The law firm of Steven J. Joseph, P.C., in La Grande, has added J. Logan Joseph as a junior partner.

Joseph was born in La Grande and graduated from La Grande High School in 2005. After graduating, he helped with the relief effort in New Orleans, Louisiana, following Hurricane Katrina.

He attended two terms at Eastern Oregon University before transferring to New Mexico State University in 2006. Joseph obtained his degree in criminal justice in 2010. He worked in the equine industry in Los Angeles, California, and Houston, Texas, prior to beginning law school at the Willamette School of Law in 2012, and earned his J.D. in 2015. While in law school, Joseph clerked at the law firm of Kevin Mannix in Salem.

Joseph’s focus at the firm is business, real estate and estate planning.

NEOEDD to hold board meeting next Thursday in Baker City

The Northeast Oregon Economic Development District is holding a board meeting at 1:30 p.m. June 23, at the Baker County Courthouse, 1995 Third St., in Baker City.

The district’s mission is to provide resources and facilitate quality decision-making for the benefit of entrepreneurs, businesses and communities in Baker, Union and Wallowa counties.

Spring alfalfa seed, onion reports deadline approaching

In order to comply with Farm Service Agency program eligibility requirements, all producers are encouraged to visit their respective county FSA offices to file an accurate crop certification report by the applicable deadline.

July 15 is the reporting deadline for the following two crops:

• Spring alfalfa seed (planted 4/21-6/10)

• Onions (planted 2/15-5/15)

The following exceptions apply to the above acreage reporting dates:

• If the crop has not been planted by the above acreage reporting date, then the acreage must be reported no later than 15 calendar days after planting is completed.

• If a producer acquires additional acreage after the above acreage reporting date, then the acreage must be reported no later than 30 calendars days after purchase or acquiring the lease. Appropriate documentation must be provided to the county office.

If a perennial forage crop is reported with the intended use of “cover only,” “green manure,” “left standing” or “seed,” then the acreage must be reported by July 15. Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) policy holders should note that the acreage reporting date for NAP covered crops is the earlier of the dates listed above or 15 calendar days before grazing or harvesting of the crop begins.
