‘Gigantic’ yard sale raises funds for Union library

UNION — The Friends of the Union Carnegie Library are having what the organization describes to be a “gigantic” yard sale June 14-15 at 64825 Little Creek Lane in Union. The sale will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Proceeds from the sale go toward library improvements, programs and books.

Blue Mountain Outfitters says ‘Thank you’ with block party

LA GRANDE — Blue Mountain Outfitters, 1124 Adams Ave., is hosting a block party on June 15 to celebrate its fifth birthday. A portion of Depot Street at the corner of Adams Avenue in downtown La Grande will be closed from noon to 4 p.m. to make room for games, live tunes from Good Sax, food from Hines Meat Co. and Kettle Korn and More and cake from Kneads Bakery. There will also be a beer garden at hq next door plus special sales and raffles as the business says “Thank you” to the community that has supported it for the last five years.

Wallowology welcomes Nobel laureate June 15

JOSEPH — Wallowology opens for the season June 15 with a party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a special presentation at 7 p.m. by a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The daytime festivities will include door prizes, raffles and games. The 7 p.m. presentation will be “Future Trends in Climate & Ecosystems in the PNW” by Steve Running, PhD, IPCC Lead Author, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Both events take place at the Wallowology Center, 508 N. Main St., Joseph.

Gun club hosts monthly .22 benchrest matches

LA GRANDE — The La Grande Rifle and Pistol Club is hosting a .22 benchrest match June 15. The club will be holding matches on the third Saturday of the month from May through October. The free matches are for .22 long rifles only. Participants will need 40 rounds plus sighters to shoot the match. There are several categories of rifles, equipment and shooting styles. Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the match kicks off at 9 a.m. Hearing and eye protection are required. For more information, call Dick at 541-963-8624.

Registration open for Flora School Education Center’s pioneer skills classes

FLORA — The Flora School Education Center, dedicated to promoting pioneer skills and the restoration of the actual school building in Flora, will provide several chances this summer and fall to learn skills necessary to life and to creating a home by pioneers.

On June 15-16, an Intro to Blacksmith class will be held at Flora, taught by Nathan Thompson, winner of the School Days 2019 blacksmith competition. Later in the summer, Mike Rowley, a “Forged in Fire” champion, will host and teach a class at his smithy in Enterprise for advanced blacksmiths. Vanessa Thew Thompson, Flora resident and national-award-winning rug weaver, will also teach a class this weekend.
