One confirmed dead in accident east of Elgin

One individual is confirmed dead in an accident that occurred late Wednesday morning east of Elgin.
The accident, which involved two pickups and a car, took place near milepost 38 on Highway 82 in Minam Canyon, according to Oregon State Police. One of the pickups was pulling a trailer. Each vehicle had at least two occupants, OSP confirmed. At least one child was injured in the accident, OSP confirmed.
Three individuals involved in the accident were transferred to Wallowa Memorial Hospital in Enterprise, one of whom has been declared deceased.
The accident, which was reported at 10:33 a.m., closed the highway both directions at about 11:20 a.m. The highway has since been reopened, according to an Oregon Department of Transportation press release.
Oregon Department of Transportation, Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office, Enterprise Police Department, Wallowa Fire Department and OSP responded to the call. LifeFlight was also called in.
