- The Landing Hotel won the fall beautification award for commercial property.
LA GRANDE — The La Grande Landscape and Forestry Commission gives seasonal awards to residential and commercial properties for efforts to maintain and improve the beauty of La Grande’s environment. The awards recognize exemplary maintenance and design of landscapes and the community forest.
Nominations for this award are made by members of the commission and awards committee, city employees, neighbors and citizens.
The residential fall award winners are Joseph and Erin Davidson. The selection committee chose this home, at 1802 Washington Ave., for its diversity of trees, shrubs, perennials and annual flowers and the colorful late season display that graces the front entry. The Davidsons have also invested in preserving the mature maple trees in the city right-of-way that provide shade, clean air and clean water.
The Landing Hotel, owned by Gust and Karin Tsiatsos, is the 2019 commercial fall winner. The Landing Hotel, 1501 Adams Ave., was selected for its charming outdoor space that brings nature to downtown La Grande. The landscape, plantings and street trees are especially beautiful given that the building previously was a blighted property.
