Latest OHA report shows highest single-day deaths in Oregon

SALEM — The Oregon Health Authority revealed its daily report on Wednesday, Oct. 13, which showed nine new COVID-19 cases in Union County and four new cases in Wallowa County. The cases, combined with those in the report from Oct. 12, bring Union County’s total case count since the start of the pandemic to 3,108. Wallowa County has totaled 661.

Across the state, 82 news COVID-19 related deaths were reported on Oct. 12, which brings Oregon’s death toll to 4,084 since the start of the pandemic. The report shows that this is the highest quantity of deaths in the state on a single day during the pandemic, partly due to a death data reconciliation across hospitals in Oregon. The report from Oct. 13 showed 33 new COVID-19 deaths in the state.

Three COVID-19 deaths in Union County were recorded in the OHA update from Oct. 12.

A 53-year-old woman with underlying conditions from Union County who tested positive on July 30 died on Aug. 8 at Grande Ronde Hospital.

A 66-year-old man with underlying conditions from Union County tested positive on Sept. 27 and died on Oct. 11 at Grande Ronde Hospital.

A 52-year-old woman with underlying conditions from Union County tested positive on Sept. 15 and died on Oct. 9 at Grande Ronde Hospital.

OHA tallied 1,278 new confirmed and presumptive cases in the latest report, which combined with Tuesday’s numbers, brings the state’s total to 346,480 since the start of COVID-19.

In the state there are currently 595 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Out of the 680 total adult ICU beds in Oregon, 61 are currently available. For adult non-ICU beds, 306 are currently available out of 4,138.

The state’s seven-day average of vaccination doses stands at 10,299 doses per day.
