HELIX — The Powder Valley basketball teams will have one less game this weekend after a recent COVID-19 outbreak on the Griswold High School teams led to cancellations.
The Badgers were slated for a girls matchup at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, while the boys were scheduled to match up at 4 p.m. The games were set to take place in Helix.
According to Powder Valley Athletic Director Brad Dunten, the outbreak started on the Griswold boys team and exposed the school’s girls team as well.
The Badgers are currently still fit to play, with a game against Elgin scheduled for Jan. 14 and a matchup at La Grande on Jan. 18.
Griswold canceled three of its games, which were all Old Oregon League contests. The Grizzlies were slated to play Nixyaawii on Jan. 12 and Joseph on Jan. 14 in the buildup to a matchup with Powder Valley on Saturday.
The Powder Valley boys team is currently 12-1 overall and 3-0 in league play, with a No. 1 ranking in the OSAA 1A standings. The girls team is 5-8 overall and 1-1 in league play, winning five of its last seven matchups.
