Inclement weather and the extended closure of Interstate 84 this past week, caused delivery delays for The Observer on Tuesday, April 12, and served as a good reminder that print subscribers to the should register their subscriptions to the newspaper.

Registering a subscription means readers can continue to get the paper in digital format in their email inbox no matter what happens with the weather, the postal service, our single copy distributors or our production facilities.

There is a great value to receiving the newspaper delivered via an email inbox as a good back-up plan. We are fortunate because our company has, over the past few years, invested heavily in technology that gives our readers a great online experience, both through our websites and our replica e-editions.

I encourage you to get your account registered on our online platform, so that if delivery is delayed due to weather or any other issue, you will still be able to get the information you need.

Subscribers can access the e-edition of The Observer and the paper’s other online products 24/7. If you need assistance with that, call 800-781-3214. Subscribers may also email us at circulation@eomediagroup.com. If you’re not a subscriber, registering your email on our site also gives you access to breaking news and headline newsletters delivered to your inbox.

We believe now, more than ever, our role for this community is critical. We provide as much accurate information to our readers as fast as we can and in a way that is easily accessible. We want to make sure that our readers are informed.

Always.

If you missed one or more issues of The Observer this week, here are a few items you might have missed out.

Reporter Dick Mason turned in a nice feature on Pete Candlish, of La Grande, who would be featured on the popular Discovery Channel program “Gold Rush: Freddy Dodge’s Mine Rescue.”

Reporter Davis Carbaugh had a story about the city of La Grande and its economic development strategies for 2022-24.

Regional reporter Alex Wittwer, who is wrapping up his final week with EO Media Group, talked with a hydrologist about the impact April snowstorms will have on drought conditions in Eastern Oregon.

Coming next week, look for a story about a La Grande resident with family ties to the Ukraine that is continuing fundraising efforts that benefit front-line civilians in that war-torn nation.

As always, I want to take this opportunity to thank our subscribers for their support. We can’t do this work without you.
