Third suspect wanted in connection to car chase now in custody

ELGIN — Hermiston man taken into custody on Tuesday, July 19 as the third suspect wanted in connection to the car chase out of Island City. 

Demus Montez, 36, was charged with attempted murder, first degree attempted robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm as a felon, criminal mischief, reckless endangering and misdemeanor fleeing, according to a joint press release from the Oregon State Police and Union County Sheriff’s Office 

According to Sheriff Cody Bowen, the suspect was identified by a motorist, who reported seeing an individual wearing a black hoodie crawl out of a field outside Elgin. The responding deputy found Montez sitting along Highway 82. 

According to Bowen, deputies arrived, took the suspect into custody and booked him into the Union County Jail.

The arrest stems from a reported burglary July 17 of Bullseye Muzzleloaders and More, 10201 W. First St., Island City.
