Local politics and social issues are in full swing in Union County, and our news coverage is reflecting that.
We have La Grande City Council candidates covering issues such as homelessness, marijuana sales and economic development within the city during a town hall forum hosted by the Eastern Oregon University debate team.
Union voters will decide on a five-year option levy for the Union Carnegie Public Library during the Nov. 8 election. The option levy would raise enough for the library to be able maintain its present staff and its level of service.
The Ontario City Council sent a letter earlier this month to Oregon media outlets, including The Observer, and Gov. Kate Brown, along with gubernatorial candidates Christine Drazan, Tina Kotek and Betsy Johnson highlighting how Measure 110, passed by voters in 2020, has “disastrously impacted our community.”
