State police arrest Baker City man for failure to register as sex offender

LA GRANDE — The Oregon State Police arrested a man Saturday, Dec. 3, for failing to register as a sex offender, according to reports released Dec. 6.
Randy Townsend, 63, of Baker City, was convicted on Aug. 31, 1984, in Union County of first-degree sexual abuse and sodomy, according to the Union County District Attorney’s Office.
Police stopped Townsend driving eastbound on U.S. Highway 30 near Union in a 2015 Volkswagon Passat. He also was cited for driving while suspended.
According to the citation, Townsend told police he no longer was required to register as a sex offender but had no documentation to back up the statement.
The vehicle was towed and impounded.
Townsend is scheduled to appear in Union County Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 14.
