EO Media Group, the parent company of The Observer, reached a significant milestone recently.

Our group was selected as one of the top 10 news publishers in the United States who “do it right,” in 2023 by Editor & Publisher magazine.

E&P Magazine is the nation’s premier outlet regarding the news industry — including print, digital and broadcast outlets — and has been published since 1901.

“Committed to building relationships and partnerships across the industry, EO Media continues to keep its content thriving and relevant by sharing best practices, promoting its journalists and the value they add to their communities and helping all of their publications show up well online and in print. Their goal? Creating a better customer experience will only make EO Media’s future more sustainable,” wrote the magazine.

The recognition is a high honor for the company. Yet it is also a signal that readers do, indeed, get their money’s worth with all of our products.

I believe our success and recognition stems from a companywide challenge to teach and promote a culture of innovation.

Developing innovative approaches to a range of challenges is a watchword for our newspapers and that means readers receive the highest-quality journalism on a regular basis.

Innovation isn’t easy but our ability to identify, analyze and solve an array of challenges breeds confidence that can be translated to our readers.

It is not often a rural newspaper group is chosen from a nationwide pool as an organization that “does it right,” and I am proud of our success. We follow ethical procedures, maintain a high degree of professionalism and never dismiss or take our readers for granted.

I am most proud, though, that this honor means our readers receive a top-notch form of journalism. This recognition is as much about us as it is about our readers.

Andrew Cutler is the interim editor of The Observer.
