June 3-4 is free fishing weekend in Oregon

- Anglers can fish for free at Wallowa Lake and elsewhere in Oregon on June 3 and 4, 2023, which is Oregon's Free Fishing Weekend. Wallowa Lake is renowned for its kokanee and trout fishing.
LA GRANDE — Anglers can fish for free anywhere in Oregon during Free Fishing Weekend, June 3-4.
They won’t need a license, tag or other validation.
All other regulations, however, will be in effect. These include, depending on the fish species and waterbody, size limits, daily and possession limits on the number of fish, and restrictions on the type of tackle used. Details are available in the Oregon fishing regulations or at myodfw.com.
Free Fishing Weekend events are planned at several places around Northeastern Oregon.
• Marr Pond, Enterprise — 8 a.m. to noon
• Twin Ponds, Ukiah — 9 a.m. to noon
Trout fishing derby at Unity Reservoir
This inaugural event is planned on Saturday, June 3 at Unity Reservoir, along Highway 245 about 43 miles southwest of Baker City. There will be cash prizes and gifts, as well as concessions and music.
The derby will be divided into age groups, 5 and under, 6 to 10, 11 to 17 and 18 and older.
Entry fee is $10 per person, free for ages 5 and under.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Burnt River Preschool.
